孙宁在25日的发布会上将王冕的诗句“不要人夸颜色好，只留清气满乾坤”译为: Not angling for compliments, I'd be content that my integrity fills the universe. 后台不少朋友颇有微词，认为译文丢掉了诗情画意和借物言情的暗喻手法。美国诗人Robert Frost说“Poetry is what gets lost in translation”。 诗的前两句说的是梅花淡雅，“吾家洗砚池边树，朵朵花开淡墨痕”，颜色并不艳丽，却清香满园，沁人心脾。比喻不求外表翩翩（skin-deep）但求君子如玉。还有读者说，“满乾坤”其实说的是个人的“小宇宙”，并非真的是universe……诗无达诂，译无定本，译诗则更是仁者智者之事。 我自己也试着译一个，不堪与官方媲美，只供参考讨论，英文学习者勿信，免得误人子弟。 Instead of pleasing you with a bright color, it evaporates into sweet aroma refreshing your soul. 显然孙宁的译本表达了“修身齐家治国平天下”的儒家正统理想，拙作更像“喝下这碗心灵鸡汤”。 汉英翻译远难于英汉翻译，既因为我们不是英语母语读者，更因为我们其实也不了解汉语。 昨天官媒播发《新一届中共中央委员会和中共中央纪律检查委员会诞生记》，其中又有许多让译者抓耳挠腮却又欲罢不能的说法。例如这句： 对党中央决策部署态度暧昧甚至心怀不满、另搞一套的，一票否决；骨头不硬、见风使舵、爱惜羽毛、当所谓“开明绅士”、不敢担当的，一票否决。 Anyone who equivocates, nurses grudges or set up his own kitchen in dealing with the Party's policies must be voted down. Any weak-kneed person, fence-sitter or 'yes-man' shirking respobsibilities for fear of getting tarnished must be voted down. 这是一个试译版本，同样不是标准，抛砖引玉，供人批判。 任凭风浪起，稳坐钓鱼船 这大概是毛泽东曾经说过的话，字面意思是“I sit tight on my fishing boat, in spite of the wind and waves”。 不搞“大会海推”“划票打勾” Don't use the one-man-one-vote approach which is ineffective and unfair as people simply tick boxes with little knowledge of those getting elected.
