Candy (not her real name), who claims to be a junior at a university in east China’s Nanjing City, said she has earned about 20,000 yuan from September to November by dating a young guy she barely knows.

Candy found the “lucrative” business on a rental app that allows her to sell her strengths, such as driving, cooking, and e-sports, and sometimes even maybe her beauty will suffice to attract a potential renter.

A snapshot of the app page shows the majority of the service providers are beautiful young females waiting to be chosen by potential clients who are paid for their services.

The app is easy to access. You can become a member by just registering your mobile phone number.

The staff of the app said they neither provide adult services nor accept illegal demands from its clients. But the platform is unable to manage offline activities because they happen outside of their control, putting the females in an extremely dangerous situation, said a lawyer.

In addition, because the app is not built on a real-name system, it is not as safe as it claims to be, as a banned user could register using another number.

The platform is now being monitored by police in Nanjing, who warn users to abide by the law and not to use the platform to conduct illegal activities.
