HOW DO I find a self of my own? What is the purpose of my life? Whether moved by pain, drawn by longing, or inspired by hope, we search for answers, but what we find are more questions. These uncertainties are universal and yet their resolution is unique and personal. 如何找到属于自己的、独一无二的自我？我这一生追寻的是什么？无论被痛苦打动，或受到渴望的召唤，还是得到希望的启迪，我们每个人都在寻找人生的答案——虽然找到的也许是更多的问题。我们的人生充满了不确定因素，但面对人生不确定，所需的决断却是独一无二、因人而异的。 Throughout time, people have set out on spiritual pilgrimages, on quests for personal meaning and peace. Often these journeys begin because of some kind of crisis. This isn't really surprising, because when we're happy and comfortable, we want things to remain the same, but when we're unsettled, we seek change. 从古到今的人们，为了寻找灵性之道络绎出发，追求自己的人生意义与内在的祥和。出发的冲动往往被某种危机勾起。这并不奇怪！当我们享受欢乐和惬意时，总希望事情保持下去，不要改变。只有在不安定的时候, 我们才会去寻求改变。 As much as we may hope for help with the struggle, we must learn the most important lessons on our own. As a Zen master once said to a student,'If I did not make you fight in every way possible in order to find the meaning, you would lose every chance of discovering yourself.' 虽然希望在这场斗争中得到外力协助, 但人生中最重要的一课必须独自领受。有位禅师曾这样对他的学生说：“假如我不让你并手抵足全力战斗，独自摸索前行，你就会错失所有认识自我的时机。 To find what peace is possible, we must make our own pilgrimage. Along the way we must learn what we can and accept what we must. The important thing is to begin. 为了最终找到以任何一种可能的形式出现的的内心平和（涅槃），我们必须独自寻道。在寻道之旅中，我们必须从经历中学习，接受无法改变必须接受的事实。但最重要的事是：“坐而论，不如起而行”。 As we make our way on the pilgrimage that is our life, however well we may prepare, the moment belongs to God. 我们在寻道之旅披荆斩棘的时候，无论如何充分的准备，决定性时刻都只属于上帝（随机出现）。 |
