◆happen v. 1. How was the accident happened? 正:How did the accident happen? 2. What happened to you (the radio)? She hoped nothing bad would happen to him. She happened to be out when he called. 正:It (so) happened that she was out when he called. He happened to have heard of the place. 正:It happened that he had heard of the place. 4. I happened upon her in the street the other day. He happened on the book in the bookstore. happily adv. 1. She lives happily in the country. He went to the front happily. Happily he didn’t met her there. Happily this never happened. He didn’t die happily. ◆happy adj. 1. 表示高兴的原因,be happy 之后可接不定式、that 从句、 介词 at, about 等。如: I’m very happy to see you all. We’re happy at [about] his letter. I am happy that you could go with us. 注:be happy with 意为“对…… 如: He is not happy with his new work (her explanation). Many happy returns of the day. Happy New Year (Christmas, Birthday). 如:a happy smile(幸福的微笑),a happy ending(圆满的结尾) ◆hardly adv. 1. 正:We must study hard. 正:It’s hardly possible. I can hardly understand her. He hardly had time to eat breakfast. Hardly could he wait to hear the news. 如: Hardly anyone came. There’s hardly any coal left. 4. 用于 hardly……when [before]……,表示“一…… We had hardly started when it began to rain. Hardly had we begun when we were told to stop. 注:no sooner……than 与 hardly……when 的含义和用法相同。 ◆harm n. & v. 1. It does much more harm than good. I meant no harm to you. 常用句式 do sb harm / do harm to sb (对某人有危害)。 The storm did the crops a lot of harm. 正:The storm did a lot of harm to the crops. There’s no harm in asking him. 正:It does no harm to ask him. There’s no harm in your going with them. 正:It does no harm for you to go with them. 2. It has harmed relations between the two countries. Doctors say smoking harms our health. Doctors say smoking does harm to our health. ◆harvest n. We have brought in a good cotton harvest. They are expecting a large apple harvest. Rice will be cheap after harvest. Farmers are very busy during (the) harvest. ◆hate v. 1. I hate to be interrupted [being interrupted]. Some people hate working [to work] in the early morning. I hate young people smoking [to smoke]. I hate to say it, but you are mistaken. I hate (having) to tell you this, but I’ve damaged your car. I would hate to spend Christmas alone. I hate it when people ask me for money. I hate it when people talk with their mouths full. ◆have v. 1. We are having a piano. / A bad cold is had by him. (2) 在否定句或疑问句中,可以不用助动词 do(在非正式文体中可在have 之后加 got)(主要见于英国英语中),也可用助动词 do(主要见于美国英语中)。如: He hasn’t (got) a computer. / He doesn’t have a computer. I(’ve) got a problem. Have you (got) a cold now? Do you often have colds? I haven’t got to work tomorrow. I don’t usually have to work on Sundays. 则通常用 have not。如: I have no friends. / I haven’t any friends. He hasn’t much money. Lunch is had by him. 正:He is having lunch. I’d like to have got a look at it. 正:I’d like to have a look at it. We’d a good time at the party. 正:We had a good time at the party. 如: 误:When had you breakfast? 正:When did you have breakfast?
