Japanese for ‘Family’
This group was put together as a demo for Bonsai Society of Qld back in 2008 I believe. It was designed as an interpretation of the family unit where the Father and Mother stand tall and strong together with the Child kept close enough to be protected, whilst still encouraged to stand alone and develop individually. You could add as many children as you like in the design if you wish, but one works suggestively.
Can’t seem to find any early photos.

Out of food and in need of repotting
-
-
Needle thinned ready for wire
-
-
Needles are opening but not yet showing green
-
-
When the new needles are showing green all the old needles can be removed at this stage of these trees
-
-
Starting the wire on the young one first
-
-
Mum is next for the pampering and refinement
-
-
-
Coming along nicely but there are some issues at the top with branches all from one area after the centre was removed
-
-
The only real problem is the space between branches on the right side of the apex
-
-
The view from the side showing the problem
-
-
The centre stub is removed leaving a v shape cut
-
-
The trunk is split down the middle from the top
-
-
Then the back branch is lowered to form another level
-
-
The wire is placed down the bottom of the cut so it can be lowered from that point like a branch
-
-
All sealed up and ready to grow
-
-
The result is a fuller apex with more depth due to the added layer of branching
-
-
All done and ready for repot
-
-
Some of the surface roots are sorted out and too many years of root growth removed
-
-
Happy in its new soil and time to rest and grow for spring

This is the group 2 months later. All old needles removed and new needles everywhere. This will grow well for the summer
