The Giant Pandas of China is one of the rarest animals in the world. They live in remote high mountains in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu Provinces and eat bamboo. Giant Pandas are a surviving species of the Fourth Ice Age and are known as 'living fossil', regarded as China's 'national treasure'.

The word 'panda' may have developed from the Nepalese word poonya, which means 'bamboo-eating animal' or 'plant-eating animal'. Panda并非取自“又胖又大”的音译，而是从尼泊尔语的poonya而来，意为“吃竹子的动物”或“食植物的动物”。
Keeping even a single panda in a zoo is expensive. A panda costs five times more to keep than the next most expensive animal, an elephant. 既然贵为国宝，虽然看上去比大象小，比大象吃的单一，但是熊猫是动物园里的绝对VIP，养一只熊猫的花费居然是养一头大象的五倍多。
A giant panda's face is cute, but it is not chubby. It gets its shape from massive cheek muscles. In fact, a giant panda's jaw and cheek muscles are so powerful that a panda can easily chew an aluminum dish into tiny pieces. They can also easily bite through a thick bamboo stalk. Pandas can stand upright, but their short hind legs aren't strong enough to support their bodies. A panda's bones are twice as heavy as the bones of other animals the same size. 小短腿就下盘稳？看看大熊猫吧——虽然可以直立，但短小的后肢没有强壮到能支撑起整个身体，因此自然获得别名“滚滚”。而更惨的是，这位小短腿的身上骨头还是同体型动物的两倍重！
