普利斯设计集团公共区域、公园及休闲场所景观设计：踏板公园

Located in the Aura Community, Caloundra South, Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia, Pedal Park is a community park developed by Stockland. Aura Community is the largest master planned community ever undertaken in Australia under single ownership and over the next 30 years, the city will feature a 200-kilometre network of cycleways, a 700-hectare Environmental Protection Zone, numerous parks and sporting facilities plus two enterprise parks.

Since 2015, Place Design Group has been working closely with Stockland. Within the Aura – Baringa residential community, Place Design Group has designed 50 stages residential streetscapes, the Aura Pedal Park, the Frog Park and the Sales & Display Centre. Besides, Place Design Group were also commissioned by Stockland to provide the landscape architecture consultancy for the Aura Town Square. We have also recently been engaged to provide the landscape master plan and landscape architectural services for the next residential phase, ‘Aura Central’.

Today, we will introduce Pedal Park, which is themed around bicycles and cycling. Pedal Park celebrates and fosters an active and healthy lifestyle. The overall purpose of the park was to create an environment of play, learning and active health for all ages. Water sensitive urban design (WSUD) and other green and sustainable design approaches are also involved in the design of the park.

独具特色的自行车车道是项目的一大亮点。为了给想学习骑自行车的儿童提供专门性的场地，公园内设有精心定制的带有起伏障碍和挑战的自行车环道。自行车环道全程260米，分为高级车道和初级车道两部分。车道上设置的障碍与车道难易程度相匹配，以帮助学车者更好的提升车技。

The uniquely designed cycleway is a highlight of the park. Pedal Park features a ‘learn to ride’ bike circuit with custom designed bicycle obstacles and challenges. The 260m long circuit is divided into two tracks, a more adventurous route for advanced riders and an easier route for younger riders, both featuring obstacles of varying difficulty encouraging improved bike skills and riding ability.

The bespoke riding challenges include a curved tunnel, small and large concrete formed humps, speed bumps and a cattle grid crossing, pedestrian crossings, a three-way roundabout and slow points; and a 2m level increase creating a hill for riders to enjoy the challenging incline and downhill speed.

Despite the cycleway, other facilities in the park are also worth mentioning. The bike track encircles a central playground, featuring slides, swings, see-saw and, a 7.5m tall cube tower climbing structure stands atop a 2m mound; the colorful landmark can be seen throughout the neighborhood.

To promote sport and active recreation in the Aura community, the team incorporated a bespoke court design that allows netball and basketball games to run concurrently. The court is distinct for a neighbourhood park, due to its size and its inclusion of netball facilities – despite netball ranking in the top four sports for participation in Australia, very few local parks incorporate the sport’s court layout and ring. The blue and purple court with yellow line markings were selected to reflect the Sunshine Coast’s premier netball team; The Sunshine Coast Lightning.

Custom designed picnic shelters, colourful curved bike racks and BBQ amenities provide park users and families the perfect space to enjoy the park with the bike circuit and playground in full view.

The design of Pedal Park is a great success. Since its successful open in June 2017, the park has continued to be extremely popular amongst Aura residents. The centrally located park appeals to all ages, celebrating sport and recreation in a meaningful and creditable way, with the bike circuit and playground providing hours of active play for young children, and the basketball and netball courts promoting an active lifestyle for teens and adults. Surrounded by state of the art BBQ facilities and picnic shelters, the open space design encourages strong social community interaction.

Pedal Park is also a successful practise of sustainable and WSUD design approach. The design incorporates Aura development’s overall WSUD strategy, with the park drainage integrated into roadside initiatives and subdivision wide systems. The ‘dry creek’ bed acts as a natural drainage channel, collecting and filtering stormwater before the water is fed into a rain garden positioned at the park’s low point. The rain garden again acts as a filter before the water is discharged into the storm water system. These features are cleverly integrated into the aesthetically appealing design, which not only collect the rain, but also enrich the cycling experience, offering both functional and artistic value.
