嘉中 英语中表示“极…”、“非常…“、”十分…” 意思时候，你也许首先想到的是用very、 extreme(ly)等词, 其实英语中还有不少可以表达“极度” 概念句型。我整理归纳了十 个较为常用的句型结构，供学习参考。 A. more than + 形容词、动词、分词或副词 在形容词、动词、分词或副词前加 more than可表示“非常”，“十分”的意思，相当于very。 1）We are more than happy to learn that you have escaped from the accident. 我们非常高兴获悉你已经从事故脱身。 2）He more than hesitated to promise that. 他答应这件事非常犹豫。 3）He was more than surprised at what you said. 他对你讲的话感到非常吃惊。 4）She was dressed more than simply. 她的穿着十分简朴。 B. “all + 抽象名词”， 这一结构用于强调语气，多见用于口语，用作表语或状语。 意义相当于“ very + 形容词”，但语气比very 强，并使语言生动形象。抽象 名词多为表示喜怒哀乐的情感名词。 1）I shall be all anxiety till I hear from you. 在接到你的信之前，我会非常担心的。 2）We were all astonishment when we heard the news. 听到这个信息我们都非常吃惊。 3）That afternoon it seemed all disappointment. 那天下午一切似乎都十分令人失望。 4）He showed me into a very small room, all gloom and silence. 他把我领进一间非常阴沉寂静的房间。 C. “抽象名词 + itself”与 “all + 抽象名词”一样，也可用于表示强调语气，相 当于“very + 形容词”，但语气比very 强。主要用于be的后面作为表语，起 强烈的修辞效果。 1）To his superiors, he is humility itself. 对于长辈，他极为谦逊。 2）I share the room with Isabel. I dear to day that you can learn to operate in half an hour. 这种装置十分简单，我敢说，半个小时你肯定会学会操作。 D. “good / nice / fine + and + 形容词 （或副词）”是一个强调句式，常用于口 语。在这句式中“good / nice / fine + and” 用于强调其后的形容词，相当于 very 的作用。 1）The father was good and angry when Jack came home rather late. 杰克回家很晚，父亲十分生气。 2）I didn’t like the speech, but at least it was nice and short. 我不喜欢这个讲话，但好在它很短。 3）The hostess prepared me a cup of tea, good and strong. 女主人给我冲了一杯茶, 浓浓的。 4）I followed him into the room, fine and ashamed. 我十分羞愧地跟着他进了房间。 E. 形容词或过去分词 + like anything like anything置于形容词或过去分词 之后，起强调作用，是“极……”、“非常 ……”的意思。 1）He felt happy like anything at the good news. 这个好消息使他高兴的不得了。 2）Having got a job as computer programmer in a famous company, Robert Johnson was satisfied like anything. 罗伯特·约翰逊在一家著名公司找到一份电脑设计师的工作，感到满意极了。 3）He was depressed like anything as he finally failed in the experiment which he had carried on for three years. 他进行了三年的实验失败了，他极为沮丧。 F. nothing if not 置于表语前，加强语气，表示“极……”、“非常 ……”的意 思 1）He is nothing if not clever. 他非常聪明。 2）He was never precipitate; he was nothing if not discreet. 他从不鲁莽，他非常谨慎。 3）The holiday was nothing if not varied. 假日活动极其丰富多彩。 4）You're nothing if not up to date in this office. 你们办公室的设备很现代化。 5）He's nothing if not a gentlemen. 他极有君子风度。 G. as + 形容词/副词 + as anything 是一固定结构，多用于口语。从词面意思 是“……像什么似的”，其实并没有比较的意思，只是夸大地加强语气，表示“十 分”、“非常”、“极其”，相当于副词very、extremely。 1）He pretends to be as modest as anything. 他装作十分谦逊。 2）She was as afraid as anything when she heard noises in the dark empty house. 当她在漆黑的空房里听到响声时，她惊恐万分。 3）The boy was as happy as anything when his parents decided to adopt a puppy. 当爸爸妈妈决定收养一条小狗时，那个男孩高兴极了。 4）This English course is as good as anything for learning English. 这本英文教程非常的棒。 H. as + 形容词 + as + 形容词 + can be 是当代英语中的一种强调结构，该结 构对形容词进行重复，从而表达了形容词的最高程度，其意思为“极其”、“…… 得不能再……”。 1）I was as hungry as hungry could be. 我饿极了。 2）He may not be so clever as Peter, but he is as industrious as industrious can be. 他也许不如彼得聪明，但却用功极了。 3）She was a girl，poorly dressed but as neat as neat could be. 她是个女孩，穿得很不好，但却很整洁。 4）He is guilty of the crime.
