威斯坦·休·奥登（Wystan Hugh Auden，1907–1973），英裔美国诗人、文学评论家。早期诗歌多写战争题材，后期转向宗教，是艾略特之后重要的一位诗人。1948年，奥登凭长诗《焦虑的时代》（The Age of Anxiety）获得普利策奖。1994年电影《四个婚礼一个葬礼》中引用了他的另一首爱情诗歌《葬礼蓝调》（The Funeral Blues），使这位诗人在二十世纪末再度受到关注。 BGM：Theme from Schindler's List (Reprise) - John Williams As I Walked Out One Evening W. As I walked out one evening, Walking down Bristol Street, The crowds upon the pavement Were fields of harvest wheat.
And down by the brimming river I heard a lover sing Under an arch of the railway: 'Love has no ending.
'I'll love you, dear, I'll love you Till China and Africa meet And the river jumps over the mountain And the salmon sing in the street.
'I'll love you till the ocean Is folded and hung up to dry And the seven stars go squawking Like geese about the sky.

But all the clocks in the city Began to whirr and chime: 'O let not Time deceive you, You cannot conquer Time.

“橱柜中有冰川在敲打， 床中有沙漠在叹息。 茶杯上那细细的裂痕会开启 一条通往冥府的路径。
“在那儿，乞丐把银票当彩票用， 巨魔取媚于童子。 白如莲花的男孩咆哮了一声， 女孩失足，背心着地。
“咄，看吧，看那镜中， 看那伤悲； 生命依旧充满了祝福 但你却祈福无果。
“咄，站起來，佇立在窗边 当灼烫的泪珠溢出时， 你亦将用你那颗畸形的心 爱上你那畸形的东邻。”
此时日暮已深， 恋人们不知去向。 时钟早已停止了奏鸣 河水一如既往地深深流淌。
雪梨第一次听到这首诗是英国演员抖森（Tom Hiddleston）念的，非常棒。诗里有太多意象，这里只能择两三个说一说。
诗歌的开头，诗人偷听着恋人的海誓山盟，但是爱情的声音迅速被诉说衰老和死亡的钟声打断。其实，诗歌第一节把拥挤的人群比喻成待收割的麦田，已经暗示着虽然生命丰饶，但死亡也将近。“Harvest wheat”的意象甚至会让人联想到提着镰刀而来的死神。
时间（Time），噩梦（Nightmare）和赤裸的正义公道（Justice）以大写字母开头，仿佛是被具象化、人格化的存在。时间的力量可以让生命最为丰盛活跃的地方（橱柜和床头）也日渐荒凉，只剩下缓慢移动、了无生机的冰川和沙漠。床（Bed）和死亡（dead）的押韵和并置让人意识到，床不仅是生命开始和栖息的地方，也很可能是生命结束的地方。
诗歌的最后，天色已暗，恋人不见踪影，钟声也悄然止息，只有河水仍旧不舍昼夜地流。读到这里如果你想到了千年以前孔夫子的感叹，这脑洞大概也不是很大。
