英文中，有很多含有冠词和身体某个部位的习语，不认识它们的同学们很有可能搞出一些笑话来。

1. long in the tooth指的是年纪大，而不是牙齿长。

这个习语的来源和horse相关。以前的人们发现，当马老去的时候，它的gum (牙龈) 会向上萎缩，导致看上去就像牙齿变长一样。由此，long in the tooth 便产生了年长的意思。

2. hit someone in the eye 是指某物很吸引人眼球，虽然它的字面意思是打了某人的眼睛。

The diamond bracelet worn by that actress hit the cameramen in the eye.

那个女演员的全钻手链吸引了很多摄影师的眼球。

3. have an eye for是指对…有品味。

eye 在这个习语可以理解为眼力, 而不是眼睛。
