  “Pretty Woman”, or “Oh, Pretty Woman”, is a song recorded by Roy Orbison and written by Orbison and Bill Dees. The song was released as a single in August 1964 and spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 from September 26. In October, it was certified gold by the RIAA. In 1999, the song was honoured with a Grammy Hall of Fame Award and was named one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.  Roy Orbison was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He was regarded as a rock-and-roll pioneer and one of the genre’s most influential musicians. During performances, he was known for wearing black clothes to match his dyed jet-black hair and dark sunglasses, which lent an air of mystery to his persona. Orbison posthumously won the 1991 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Rolling Stone placed him at No. 37 on their list of the “Greatest Artists of All Time,” and Billboard magazine listed Orbison at No. 74 in the Top 600 recording artists.  The title of “Pretty Woman” was inspired by Orbison’s wife Claudette. One day, when Orbison was writing with Dees at his house, Claudette came in and said she was going to the town for shopping.
