New Magic 2A Unit 5 School picnic

Packing things for the school picnic

(the 1st Period)

Good morning! Ladies and gentlemen! The topic of the lesson is ‘Packing things for the school picnic’ From Unit 5 Our School, Period1. There are 8 parts in my presentation.

First of all, let’s start with analysis of teaching material. It’s a dialogue lesson about Witchy packing things for the school picnic. There are 3 topics in this unit. Topic one: packing things for the school picnic. Topic two: at the school picnic. And Topic three: after school picnic. If we go further, we can see that this lesson is not only about language, but also about activities.

And part 2 is about analysis of students. My students are about 11 years old. They are active and creative. They have good memory but poor concentration. So for active and creative, I will provide as many opportunities as possible for them to show.  And for poor concentration, I will apply multi-sensory stimulation. That is listening, speaking, writing, watching and acting.

Part 3 is teaching objectives, including knowledge, skills and emotion. For knowledge, students are expected to learn the new words, sentence patterns and to understand the dialogue. And for skills, students are expected to improve their speaking skill. And for emotion, I hope students can know the things we need for the school picnic, and how to prepare for the school picnic accordingto the weather. I would like to arouse students’ interest in English learning.

Part4 is key points and difficult points. In this part, I will focus on the pronunciation of some new words, like scarf, key ring, and raincoat. And I will also focus on how to apply a real situation for the key sentence patterns.

Part 5 is about teaching and learning methods. In this lesson, I apply TPR, Situational Teaching Method, Task-based Teaching Method and Communicative Teaching Method.

Part 6 is teaching aids. In this lesson, I will use multi-media computer and the teaching means, which can develop the students’ abilities.

Part 7 is procedure and time distribution.

Ⅰ Pre-learning

Step 1. Warming-up

First, sing a song about the weather. In this part,students can arouse their learning interest.

After the song, I’ll have the students to have a brainstorm, to think about the things we need for the school picnic. In this part, students will improve their observation and speaking skills.

Ⅱ While-learning

Step 2. Presentation and practice

First of all, I’ll share some pictures about the students’ school picnic. Students can understand the meaning of the school picnic well. Then I would like the students to listen to the short dialogue and figure out what Witchy need for the school picnic, and learn the new words: a water bottle and a watch. In this part, students will predict the information and practice their listening skill. And then, learn and practice the new words.

We keep listening to what Witchy and her mum says. And learn the new word: a key ring. Practice it in a small chant with some drums. And lead the students to think about what we need or do not need for the school picnic. In this part, students will practice in their pairs.

Now, the students will learn the new word: a scarf. This is a difficult word for them. We practice it with a funny magic show.

Then I will lead the students to know the weather report. Let them know that we need to check the weather report, when we are preparing the school picnic. And learn the new words: an umbrella and a raincoat. At this part, students will practice the new words with a chant in music. Then talk about what we need on a sunny day or a rainy day.

Part III After-learning

Step 3 Consolidation and extension

Now we have learned all the new words and the whole dialogue. The students will listen to the whole dialogue and practice in roles. Then we have a task about the school picnic plan. In this part, the students can practice the key sentence patterns in a real situation.

This is my Blackboard Design. Students can sum up what they have learned in this lesson according to the blackboard design.

The last part is learning evaluation. This will letthe students to know who has done a good job and encourage them to do better.
