An Impromptu speech is a mini speech with a definite opening, body & conclusion. It is basically an unprepared speech that could be:

• a response answer to a question

• a quick reaction to an idea, situation or proposition

• an elaboration of a quotation or a principle

In Toastmasters it should be between a minimum of 1 minute to a maximum 2 min 30 seconds

Table Topics Formats

AREM: Answer – Reason – Example – Message

• Used when you are asked a specific question
  

PREP: Position – Reason – Example – Position

• Used when you are given a situation or quote

PPF: Past – Present – Future

• Used when comparing events or situations within a timeline

AIDA:

Attention- Attention-grabbing opening

Interest – Stir interest with a proposition or an idea

Desire – Sustain the audience desire to listen

Action – Make a call to action

• Used for general topics or as reaction to a point

SMB (SMG): Story – Message – Benefit (Gain)

• Used to relate a topic to one’s own or other’s experience

Freestyle:

• No specific format but with definite Opening – Body – Conclusion

BA’s Personal Table Topics Guide:

T – Take time to collect thoughts (30 sec.max)

O – Open with a bang/Grab attention; Organize your speech

P – Personalize your story or example

I  – Inspire your audience or Inject humor

C – Close with impact; Close with lasting impression

S – Shut-up; STOP before going overtime
