Zhang Qian (164—114 BC), born in Gu County, Shaanxi, China, was a diplomat and explorer in the Han Dynasty. He opened up the Silk Road, a trade route connecting China and Central Asia, and promoted the understanding and cooperation between China and the Central, West and South Asia and the Europe. His diplomatic activities fostered the ties between China and these countries based on equality and friendship. |
