Our clients Bill and Kate had purchased a run down post-war brick semi-detached house in Bondi. As is typical of this period of housing the plan consisted of a series of poorly-lit consecutive rooms, ending in a lean-to extension that blocked the internal areas from views to an unkempt rear garden. 为了满足家庭的需求，建筑师在全新山墙形式空间中进行了上部楼层的扩建。扩建的部分位于原来面向街道的屋脊的后面，最大程度地减少了楼层对外观的影响，新的山墙屋顶形式受到原来屋顶角度的影响，因此构成了新结构，整个体量看起来具有现代气息，但与原有建筑及周围环境都保持着独特的关系。 To accommodate a growing family, an upper floor extension was proposed within a new gable roof form. The upper floor nestles behind the ridge of the existing street facing roof, minimising the appearance of the second floor addition. The new gable roof form is influenced by the angles of the existing roof and creates a structure that, while clearly contemporary, has a distinctive design relationship to the existing house and its surrounds. 在室内，山墙形式也构成了许多戏剧化空间效果，因为此类空间不常出现在这样规模的建筑之中。住宅的最高点是主卧室，在这里，使用者可以透过植物和百叶窗看到后面的花园。 Internally the gable form creates a number of dramatic volumes that you would not expect in a house of this size. This was achieved through careful positioning of windows and skylights, and by reorienting the house to engage with its new rear garden setting and pool. A large steel canopy frames views of the garden from the interior, whilst also providing weather protection and supporting a planted roof adjacent to the main bedroom above. 景观设计为空间增加了柔和感，与建筑的黑色轮廓形成鲜明的对比。同样，室内设计也采用了新鲜的色彩，构成微妙的面板色调，与外部的黑色金属框架相辅相成。 The landscape design added a softness to the scheme which contrasts the crisp black outline of the built from. Likewise the interior design brought a fresh colour palette of subtle hues, complementing with the dark metal framing of the exterior.
