A man who was walking at night tumbled(滚动) against a stone and fell down heavily.

He climbed to his feet, rubbed his aching knees and moved on.

He went into a dead end. In front, on the left and on the right was the wall.

The front wall was just a head taller than him, but he exerted so much energy that he couldn't clamber(爬) it.

Suddenly, he had an idea, thinking about that stone tripping over himself: why not move it over to put it under his feet?

He retraced at once, carried the stone with a great deal of effort and put it at the wall.

Stepping on the stone, he easily climbed onto the wall and jumped over it lightly.

clamber [ˈklæmbə(r)] v.

retrace [rɪˈtreɪs] v.
