WLSA 上海总校长 Tony Little 先生 开学典礼演讲 It is a great pleasure to share your Commencement Day with you. You grade 10 students are embarking on a three year journey that will bring you great opportunities to develop your intellect, to deepen the balance and breadth of your character and to broaden your horizons. These three years could be transformative for the rest of your life. 很高兴与大家一起分享今天的开学典礼。十年级的学生将开启为期三年的旅程，积累知识，塑造人格，拓宽视野。这是变革性的三年，会改变你们的未来岁月。 You are joining a school that has developed spectacularly in just a handful of years. From small beginnings in a few borrowed rooms, WLSA Shanghai Academy has sent alumni to some of the best universities in the world. More importantly, WSA has enabled its students to value their Chinese identity within a global context. As WSA students we expect you to celebrate the great gifts Chinese culture brings to the world while being open-minded and expansive, appreciating different ways of doing things. There is a great world out there from which to draw inspiration. 你们加入的是一所近年来飞速发展的学校。从只有几间很小的租来的教室开始，WLSA上海学校已经培养出许多就读世界顶尖大学的校友。尤为重要的是，WLSA上海学校能让学生珍视中国身份，拥有全球视野。作为WSA学生，希望大家既能赞美中国文化给世界带来的巨大财富，又能以开放的胸襟和广阔的视野，尊重不同的行事方式。这是一个伟大的世界，大家可以从中获取灵感。 My own inspiration is drawn from you, the students. I first became involved in education in China some 15 years ago when I was Head Masterof Eton College and came to know Dr. Jia. After many discussions and conferences, the idea evolved to create the World Leading Schools Association which was formally founded in 2011. The intention was to bring together some of the best schools in the world. To begin with, the focus was on schools in China and the West. There were student and faculty exchanges, events of various kinds and a great deal of sharing of ideas. WLSA has now grown to be a genuinely global organisation with schools invited in to membership from India, Brazil and parts of Africa as well as Europe, the UK and the USA. 我的灵感来自于你们，来自于同学们。大约15年前，作为伊顿公学的校长，我第一次接触中国教育事业，并结识了贾博士。经过了多次讨论与会谈，2011年，我们正式创建了世界名中学联盟，旨在把全世界一些最好的学校联合起来。最开始，我们主要注重中国和西方之间的学校交流，例如学生和教工的交换项目，举办各种活动，分享不同经验等。如今，WLSA已经成长为名副其实的世界性组织，其成员学校来自印度，巴西，一些非洲国家，以及欧洲，英国和美国。 WLSA was created to forge a new approach to globalism, based on a strong sense of personal and national identity but with an equally strong commitment to learn from one another and to draw from the best ideas around the world. WLSA Shanghai Academy has been created as a school to embody those ideals and it is my privilege to serve as President of WSA keeping a watchful eye on the progress of everyone in the school community. As you embark on our journey, I would like you to remember that you are part of a great new school, but also part of something bigger, at the forefront of a movement that will help shape the world. Our purpose all along has been to encourage a new generation who will help the world be a better place. But you will do it. You will achieve this mighty goal if you learn good habits, if you strive always to be and do better, and if you are sensitive to the needs of the people around you, Become a thoughtful and generous-spirited leader in your school community and you will develop into an effective leader in all the communities of which you will be a part in the future. 这听起来有些高不可攀，但你们能做到！如果你们养成良好的习惯，如果你们一直努力做得更好，如果你们急人之所需，你们一定能达成这个宏伟目标。你们在学校团体中成为深谋远虑、光明磊落的领袖，未来，你们会成为任何集体中卓有成效的领导者。 There is an important thing to remember about leadership. The best leaders know how to serve. This might sound an odd thing to say, but in my experience is undoubtedly true. In order to learn how to lead, you need to learn how to be an active, collaborative follower, someone who finds ways to help a group or a designated leader find solutions to problems. 关于领导力，有一点非常重要。最好的领导者深知如何奉献。这听起来可能有些奇怪，但我的经验表明这是千真万确的。要学会如何领导，你需知如何成为一个积极主动、善于协作的跟随者，一个善于帮助集体解决问题、为领导排忧解难的人。 I believe the way that we work together will become of great significanceduring your lifetime, more than ever before in history. Why? Because thefast-developing world of artificial intelligence will do some things muchbetter than humans - analysis, for example, detailed precision, even diagnosisand strategic thinking. So society will focus more on what makes us uniquelyhuman - compassion for other people, for example, the ability to share and worksupportively in a team, sparking that specifically human quality of curiositythat leads to creativity. We want WSA to be a supportive, energetic, positive,creative place that inspires everyone who is involved: teachers, students andparents.
