| | Make sure your machine supports wireless networking. Wireless networkingmay not be available depending on the model (see Features by models). | Understanding your network type Typically, you can only have one connection betweenyour computer and the machine at a time. | Infrastructure mode Thisis an environment generally used for homes and SOHOs (SmallOffice/ Home Office). This mode usesan access point to communicate with the wireless machine. | | Ad hoc mode Thismode does not use an access point. The wireless computerand wireless machine communicate directly. | Wireless network name and NetworkPassword Wireless networks require higher security, so whenan access point is first set up, a network name (SSID), thetype of security used, and a Network Password are createdfor the network. Ask your network administrator about thisinformation before proceeding with the machine installation. Introducing wireless set up methods You can set wireless settings either from the machine or thecomputer. Choose the setting method from the below table. | | Some wireless network installation types maynot be available depending on the model or country. | | | -
If problems occurduring wireless set up or driver installation, refer tothe troubleshooting chapter (see Troubleshooting). -
It is strongly recommended that you set the passwordon Access Points. If you do not set the password on AccessPoints, they might be exposed to illegal access from unknown machines including PCs, smart phonesand printers. Refer to the Access Point user' guide forpassword settings. | If your machine and an access point (or wirelessrouter) support Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS), youcan easily configure the wireless network settings by pressing the (WPS) buttonon the control panel without a computer. | | -
If you want to use the wireless networkusing the infrastructure mode, make sure that the networkcable is disconnected from the machine. Using the WPS (PBC) button orentering the PIN from the computer to connect to the access point (orwireless router) varies depending on the access point (orwireless router) you are using. Refer to the user'sguide of the access point (or wireless router) youare using. -
When using the WPS button to set the wireless network, securitysettings may change. To prevent this, lock theWPS option for the current wireless security settings. Theoption name may differ depending on the access point (orwireless router) you are using. | -
Check if the access point (orwireless router) supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS). -
Check if your machine supports Wi-Fi ProtectedSetup™ (WPS). -
Networked computer (PIN mode only) There are two methods available to connect your machine toa wireless network using the (WPS) buttonon the control panel. The Push Button Configuration (PBC) methodallows you to connect your machine to a wireless network by pressingboth the (WPS) buttonon the control panel of your machine and the WPS (PBC) buttonon a Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ WPS-enabledaccess point (or wireless router) respectively. The Personal Identification Number (PIN) methodhelps you connect your machine to a wireless network by enteringthe supplied PIN information on a Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ WPS-enabledaccess point (or wireless router). Factory default in your machine is PBC mode, whichis recommended for a typical wireless network environment. -
Press and hold the (WPS) buttonon the control panel for about 2 - 4 seconds until thestatus LED blinks quickly. The machine starts connecting to the wireless network. TheLED blinks slowly for up to two minutes until you press the PBCbutton on the access point (or wireless router). -
Press the WPS (PBC) buttonon the access point (or wireless router). -
The lightblinks fast on the WPS LED. The machine is connecting to theaccess point (or wireless router). -
When the machine is successfully connected to thewireless network, the WPS LED light stays on. -
Insert the supplied software CD into your CD-ROMdrive, and follow the instructions in the window to setup the wireless network. -
The network configuration report, includingPIN, must be printed (see Printing a network configuration report). In ready mode, Press and hold the (WPS) buttonon the button formore than ten seconds on the control panel. You can find your machine’s PIN. -
Press and hold the (WPS) buttonon the control panel for more than 4 seconds until the status LEDstays on. The machine starts connecting to the access point (orwireless router). -
You need to enter the eight-digit PIN withintwo minutes on the computer that is connected to the access point (orwireless router). The LED blinks slowly for up to two minutes until you enterthe eight-digit PIN. The WPS LED blinks in the order below: -
The lightblinks fast on the WPS LED. The machine is connecting to theaccess point (or wireless router). -
When the machine is successfully connected to thewireless network, the WPS LED light stays on. -
Insert the supplied software CD into your CD-ROMdrive, and follow the instructions in the window to setup the wireless network. Re-connecting to a network When the wireless function is off, the machine automaticallytries to re-connect to the access point (or wirelessrouter) with the previously used wireless connection settingsand address. | | In the following cases, the machine automaticallyre-connects to the wireless network: | Canceling the connection process To cancel the wireless network connection when the machineis connecting to the wireless network, press and releasethe (Power) button on thecontrol panel. You need to wait 2 minutes tore-connect to the wireless network. Disconnecting from a network To disconnect the wireless network connection, pressthe (WPS) buttonon the control panel for more than two seconds. -
When the Wi-Finetwork is in idle mode: The machine is immediately disconnectedfrom the wireless network and the WPS LED turns off. -
When the Wi-Fi network isbeing used: While the machine waits until the currentjob is finished, the light blinks fast on the WPS LED. Then, the wirelessnetwork connection is automatically disconnected and the WPS LEDturns off. | | Shortcut to the Samsung Easy WirelessSetup program without the CD: If you have installedthe printer driver once, you can access the Samsung Easy Wireless Setup program withoutthe CD (see Accessing management tools). | Access point via USB cable -

Check whether the access point (or wirelessrouter) has a configured security (password). Ifit has a password, refer to the access point (orwireless router) administrator. -
Check the machine's IP address. Reinstallthe machine driver and change the settings to connect to the machineon the network. Due to the characteristics of DHCP, theallocated IP address could change if the machine is not used fora long time or if the access point has been reset. Register the product's MAC address when you confogure theDHCP server on the access point (or wireless router). Thenyou can always use the IP address that is set with the MAC address. Youcan identify the Mac address of your machine by printing a networkconfiguration report (see Printing a network configuration report). -
Check the wireless environment. You mightnot be able to connect to the network in the infrastructure environmentwhere you need to type in a user's information before connectingto the access point (or wireless router). -
