The American boxer, Jack, who once won the world champion, would always pray（祈祷） quietly for a while before each match.

美国有个拳击手叫杰克，他得过世界冠军。每场比赛之前他都习惯默默祈祷一阵子。

A friend asked him, “Are you praying to win the game for yourself?”

一个朋友问他：“你是为自己祈祷要赢得比赛吗？”

He shook his head and said, “If I pray to win and my opponent makes the same wish, it will be a sticky business（让人左右为难的事） for God.”

他摇摇头说：“如果我祈祷要赢，对手也祈祷要赢，那上帝也太为难了。”

The friend felt very strange. “Then what on earth are you praying for?”

朋友感到很奇怪：“那你究竟在祈祷什么呢？”

“I am just begging God to let me play a good game! Better none of us would be injured!” said Jack.

“我就是恳求上帝让我打好比赛！最好我们谁也别受伤！”杰克说。
