  The full name is the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, referred to as The Goldsmiths Company. It began in the medieval goldsmith trade industry association and is an important member of the City of London Companies. The Royal Charter is legally established on the basis of an industry association. The company regulates in accordance with the Royal Ordinances and the Acts of the Parliament. It supervises the trade of gold, silver and jewelry, as well as the national coinage industry. It is one of Britain's oldest and most prestigious metal composition certification institutions.
