今日晨读 Two men are sitting together in an airplane. 有两人在飞机上坐在一起。 They are on a long journey. One man is a teacher. The other is a farmer. 他们这是一场漫长的旅程。一个是老师，一个是农民。 They sit for a while, then the farmer says, “Let's do something to pass the time.” 他们坐了一会儿，然后农民说，“我们做些什么来打发时间吧。” “Let's ask each other riddles. Let's make the rules first, and let’s make the game more interesting. “我们来猜谜语吧。我们先来制定规则，这样游戏会更有趣。 If we don’t know the answer to a riddle, we have to pay.” says the teacher. 如果我们不知道谜底，我们要给钱。”老师说。 The farmer thinks about this for a while, then he says, “That's not fair. You're a teacher, you know more things than I do. I am just a farmer.” 农民想了一会儿，然后说，“那不公平。你是老师，你比我知道的多。我只是一个农民。” “Yes, that's true! What do you think we should do?” the teacher asks. “那确实是。你认为我们该怎么做？”老师问。 “If you don’t know the answer to a riddle you pay me $100. If I don't know the answer to a riddle, I'll pay you $50.” “如果你不知道谜底，你付我100美元。如果我不知道谜底，我付你50美元。” The teacher thinks about this, then he says, “OK. That's fair. Who’ll go first?” 老师想了想，说，“可以，这很公平。谁先来？” “I will,” the farmer says.“Here is my riddle. What has three legs when it walks, but only two legs when it flies?” “我先，”农民说。“谜语是这样的：什么东西走路时三条腿，但飞的时候只有两条腿？” The teacher repeats the riddle, “Oh, this is a good one. I'm afraid I don't know the answer.” 老师重复了这个谜语，“哦，这是个好谜语。恐怕我猜不出来。” He gives the farmer $100, then says, “Tell me the answer. What has three legs when it walks, but only two legs when it flies?” 他给了农民100美元，说，“告诉我答案。什么东西走路时三条腿，但飞的时候只有两条腿？” “I don’t know.” the farmer says, and gives the teacher $50. “我不知道,”农夫说，然后给了老师50美元。 |
