Intercavernous sinuses(海绵间窦)

 张酷酷kuku66 2020-02-25

The intercavernous sinuses (latin: sinus intercavernous) are dural venous sinuses that connect the right and left cavernous sinuses.

There are two intercavernous sinuses:

  • superior intercavernous sinus,

  • posterior intercavernous sinus.

The superior intercavernous sinus is usually larger, situated in the anterior border of the diaphragma sellae. The posterior intercavernous sinus lies in the posterior border of the diaphragma sellae.

Occasionally, one or even both intercavernous sinuses may be absent. If both intercavernous sinuses coexist, they form a complete circular venous sinus.
