Mike was taken to the police station and put in a room with another thief, an older man.

迈克被带到警察局，和另一个年龄更大的小偷关在一个房间里。

This man looked at Mike and said, “Why have they brought you here?”

这个男人看看迈克说：“他们为什么带你来这儿？”

“I stole a small radio one day after my lessons.” said Mike.

“一天下课后，我偷了一个小收音机。”迈克说。

The man laughed rudely at Mike. 那个人无礼地嘲笑着迈克。

“You should steal something which is worth a lot if you want to be a thief.

“如果你想当小偷，你应该偷一些值钱的东西。

You ought to steal something really valuable, which you can be proud of, so that your name is put in the newspaper.

你应该偷一些真正有价值的东西，你可以引以为傲，这样你的名字才会登在报纸上。

Go and steal a lot of money from a bank next time!” 

下次去银行偷一大笔钱吧!”

Mike thought for a few seconds and then said, “I can't do that.”

迈克想了几秒钟，然后说：“我不能那样做。”

“Why can't you?”, said the old thief. “Are you afraid?” “为什么不能呢？”那个老贼问。“你害怕吗？”

“No.” said Mike.“不。”迈克说。

“I am not afraid, but the banks all close at three o'clock, and my lessons don't finish till four.” 

“我不害怕，但是银行三点就关门了，我四点才能下课。”
