共情、自我隔离、前线 用英语怎么说？ 英国新冠疫情肆虐不断升级， 确诊人数直逼5万， 病死率超10%！ 首相约翰逊高烧持续不退入院治疗， 全国恐慌情绪愈发强烈。 昨天当地时间晚上8点， 英国女王伊丽莎白二世 发表特别全国电视演讲， 首次就不断升级的疫情 发表鼓舞人心的讲话。 她动情感谢前线人员和全体公民， 鼓励大家继续与新冠疫情作斗争。 这是现年93岁的女王 在位68年期间， 第五次发表电视特别演讲。 上一次的特别演讲还是2012年， 女王即位60年庆典。 I am speaking to you at what I know is an increasingly challenging time. A time of disruption（破坏) in the life of our country: a disruption that has brought grief（悲伤) to some, financial difficulties to many, and enormous changes to the daily lives of us all. I want to thank everyone on the NHS front line（英国国家医疗服务体系的前线人员）, as well as care workers and those carrying out essential roles（扮演关键角色), who selflessly continue their day-to-day duties （每天的职责) outside the home in support of us all. I am sure the nation will join me in（和我一起） assuring you that what you do is appreciated and every hour of your hard work brings us closer to a return to more normal times. I also want to thank those of you who are staying at home, thereby（由此） helping to protect the vulnerable（易感者） and sparing many families the pain already felt by those who have lost loved ones. ∆ vulnerable是指脆弱的，在这个语境下是指对新冠易感的，invulnerable则是不易感的。 Together we are tackling（应对） this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute（坚定的）, then we will overcome it. I hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in（感到骄傲） how they responded to this challenge. And those who come after us（我们的后代) will say the Britons of this generation were as strong as any. That the attributes（特点） of self-discipline（自律）, of quiet good-humoured（愉快的） resolve and of fellow-feeling（共情） still characterise this country. The pride in who we are is not a part of our past, it defines（决定了) our present and our future. ∆ fellow-feeling是共情，也就是将心比心、同病相怜。fellow就是同伴、同类的意思，feel就是感受，这个词字面意思就是感受自己的同伴，是不是很好记呢。还有一个意思相近的词empathy with sb.与某人共鸣、共情。 The moments when the United Kingdom has come together to applaud（称赞） its care and essential workers will be remembered as an expression of our national spirit; and its symbol will be the rainbows drawn by children. Across the Commonwealth（英联邦) and around the world, we have seen heart-warming stories of people coming together to help others, be it （无论是) through delivering food parcels and medicines, checking on（关心） neighbours, or converting （转型）businesses to help the relief effort. And though self-isolating（自我隔离) may at times be hard, many people of all faiths（信仰), and of none, are discovering that it presents an opportunity to slow down, pause（停下脚步) and reflect（思考）, in prayer（祈祷) or meditation（冥想). ∆ reflect有认真思考、沉思的意思，是个很地道的词。reflect on sth. 认真考虑某事。比如：I need time to reflect before I decide. It reminds me of the very first broadcast I made, in 1940, helped by my sister. We, as children, spoke from here at Windsor（温莎城堡） to children who had been evacuated（撤离) from their homes and sent away for their own safety.  Today, once again, many will feel a painful sense of separation（分离) from their loved ones. But now, as then, we know, deep down（内心深处）, that it is the right thing to do. ∆ deep down就是内心深处，心底里的意思，连heart都没有出来哦，很高效、很地道，赶紧学起来吧。 While we have faced challenges before, this one is different. This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavour（共同的努力）, using the great advances of science（科学的巨大进步) and our instinctive compassion（与生俱来的同情心) to heal. We will succeed - and that success will belong to every one of us. We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure（经受), better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.
