“闯红灯”才不是“break the red light”！翻译错了很致命！

闯红灯用英语怎么说呢

我们大多数人都会说“break the red light”，这其实是不对的，我们所说的“闯”，翻译成英语应该是“run”，所以“闯红灯”应该说成“run the red light”。

例句：

①Running red lights is common occurrence in cities.

在城市里闯红灯是一种普遍的现象。

②Love life,refuse running red lights.

珍爱生命，拒绝闯红灯。

闯红灯的其他说法

Surprise！！那就是“jump the red light”，这里的“jump”表示忽略掉，直接过马路。

例句：

①Don’t jump the red light,or you will be sorry.

不要闯红灯，否则你会后悔的。

②Are you nuts?I’m not going to jump a red light.

你疯了吗！我可不去闯红灯。

其实“jump the red light”和“jump the queue”相似，它是指忽视掉队伍，“插队”的意思。

例句：

He refused to jump the queue for treatment at the local hospital.

他在本地医院就诊时拒绝插队。

有的时候我们看见闯红灯会说“乱穿马路”，其实在英语中也可以这么说，对应的英文是“jaywalk”[ˈdʒeɪwɔːk]。

红灯是red light，绿灯是不是 green light呢？答案是Yes。但是“等红灯”却不能说成“wait for the red light”，因为等红灯的目的是等红灯变绿，所以应该是“wait for the green light”。

如果是“wait for the red light”应该翻译成“等红灯出现”，所以“我在等红灯”可以说成：I’m waiting for the green light.或者I am waiting for the red light to change.

例句：

When the light is red,you can t cross the road.You must wait for the green light.

红灯时你不可以横穿马路，你必须等到绿灯时才可以过马路。

green light的其他意思

“green light”不仅有“绿灯”的意思，也有“准许”的意思。很好理解，其实就是给别人在心里开绿灯。

• “give sb/sth the green light”意思是“给某人/某事许可”

• “get the green light”则是“得到许可”

例句：

你觉得制片公司会通过我们的电影吗？

②My boss gave me the green light to start the project.

我老板同意我开始这个项目了。

③If we want to go outing, we must get the green light from the teacher.

“黄灯”有两种说法：

美式为“yellow light”，可以直接理解；英式则为“amber light”，“Amber”是“琥珀色的”。

红灯，绿灯，黄灯统称“交通灯”，叫做“traffic light”。

例句：

It s dangerous crossing the street here because there is no traffic light.

“违反交通规则”可以说“be against the traffic rules/law/regulations”。

例句：

we can’t turn left here.It’s against the traffic regulations.
