形容词短语是指由几个形容词或形容词及其修饰语构的短语，通常在句中作定语或者表语。

 

17. a majority of大多数的

用法：a majority of后接复数名词，也可以接不可数名词。

 

例句：A majority of them are young couples. (2015年12月四级)

他们中的大多数是年轻夫妇。

 

语法点：该例句用的是一般现在时态，一般现在时用来表示现在发生的动作或存在的状态，句子中的系动词are是现在式。

 

18. a piece of一张，一块，一条

用法：a piece of后接不可数名词，表示复数时，piece要变成复数形式。

 

例句：It’s so strange that he folded a piece of paper for four times.

他把一张纸折了四次，真是奇怪。

 

I stuck the two pieces of paper together.

我把这两张纸粘在一块儿了。

 

19. a pair of一对

用法：a pair of后接表示成双成对的名词，如：裤子、鞋子、袜子等。

 

例句：The man should get a pair of new shoes. (2014年12月六级)

这个男人应该有一双新鞋。

 

语法点：

例句中的should是情态动词，没有人称和数的变化，后面跟动词原形，主要是用来表示说话者的态度、情感问题。除了should，还有might, could, would等。

 

20. a pile of一堆，很多

用法：a pile of 既可以修饰名词，也可以修饰不可数名词，相当于piles of（很多）。

 

例句：

Mr. Laurence gets a pile of papers to sign his name.

劳伦斯先生有一堆文件要签名。

 

There were neat piles of kindling wood against the wall.

墙边整齐地放着几堆引火柴。
