动词短语是由动词和介词、副词、名词等构成的，在句中作谓语。

241.keep away from阻止，远离

用法：keep away from作“阻止”解时，与step from用法相同，其后常接名词或者动名词。

例句：The streets are plastered with slogans of “keep away from drugs”.

大街小巷贴满了“远离毒品”的标语。

结构分析：The streets是主语（the是前置定语），are plastered with是谓语，slogans of “keep away from drugs”是宾语，其中of“keep away from drugs”是后置定语。

242.keep down镇压，抑制

用法：keep down 也可以表示“使处于低水平”，其后通常接表示事物的名词。

例句：I heard that a mysterious army had kept down the rebellion.

我听说是一支神秘的军队镇压了暴动。

243.keep up with跟上，不落后

用法：keep up with与catch up with同义。

例句：But they are often able to keep up with the normal routine of work. （2015年12月四级）

但是他们往往能够跟上正常的工作程序。

244.keep off消灭，杀光

用法：kill off也可以表示“消耗，去掉”，其宾语成分可以位于off之前，也可以位于其后。

例句：They would eventually kill off the deer. (2013年12月六级)

他们最终会把鹿杀死。

用法：keep up也可以表示“价格居高不下，保持某一速度/水平，不落后”，其后一般不接宾语，可与介词连用，引出具体内容。

例句：If the United States wants to keep up in the global economic race, it will haveto pay systematic attention to graduating minorities, not just enrolling them.(2011年6月六级)
