【原】能手与爱情——字母趣话之A

我曾写过一个字母趣谈系列，是从Z开始往前倒着写的，只写到X就放下了，没空继续下去。这次从A开始包抄过去，希望能够胜利会师。

首先来看看“百度百科”对字母A起源的说法：

字母a的产生可能是由于一个牛头符号，像在古埃及文字里并很早出现在闪族的书面当中，大约在公元前1500年的西奈半岛。在公元前1024年前后，在比布鲁斯（古地中海港市，位于现黎巴嫩北的朱拜勒，公元前第二个千年成为繁华的腓尼基城）和腓尼基的其他一些地方以及迦南的中心，这个符号是特定的线性形式，对于全部的线性形式来说。在闪族的语言中这个符号叫做aleph，意思是ox（公牛）。A也是一个象形字。

要说一个字母，就找与这个字母的名称音类似的单词，比如对于A，目前我能想到最相似的就是Abe和Ace了，所以要提起Abe Lincoln，我想大家都知道这是谁，全名Abraham Lincoln，著名的美国总统。

Ace来自于Ace of Base这支来自瑞典的超级流行乐队，不清楚的朋友可以去搜索一下，就一切都明白了。这个名字的翻译怪怪的，叫什么“基地王牌”。其最有名的两首歌曲是All That She Wants和The Sign。“Ace”为什么解释为王牌呢？原来扑克牌里的老A就是Ace的缩写。

另外，字母A还使我想起二十多年前学过的一套教材——《AAA英语》，这三个A代表的分别是Assurance（安全感），Achievement（成就感）和Acceleration（加速度）。听着很高大上，其实其作者使用的是英汉对照学习法，并不高明。

另外，在美国著名作家纳撒尼尔·哈桑的笔下，字母A既能代表偷情（adultery），也能代表爱情（amour，字典解释是“（尤指秘密的）恋情；风流韵事”），这个字母在《红字》（The Scarlet Letter）里因此有了一种贯穿始终的引线作用。
