It was several months ago that my students took a test for the unit we had just finished. A girl got the best grade in my class, which made me so glad that I prepared a lovely gift for the best one as usual. In my mind, she is a shy girl, as gentle as a little cat. She never talks loudly with her deskmate in class even after class.Each time when I see her, she is just sitting there quietly, reading or writing. What’s more, she is average in all her subjects. But this time, to my surprise, she got the highest grade in the class. I was really delighted for her recent progress. I wanted to get the chance to encourage her. I had a lesson that afternoon. When I walked into the office that noon, I found a note on my desk.It was lying there, folded beautifully. I opened it. “ Dear Ms Gao, I’m really sorry for my grade. Even though I got a high mark, I was unhappy, for it was not my real grade and I cheated you.I was worrying about it the whole morning, and I was wondering if I should tell you the truth.…… Can you forgive me? I’ll never do it like that.” At the end of the note, there was a crying face following her name. I was puzzled. What a big shock to me! I had trouble in thinking about it. What should I do? How to solve it? She wanted to become the top one, but the way she took … During the class, I kept quiet and said nothing about that. I read the marks to the class, praising those who made impressive progress, including her. She sat in her seat, with her face in her hands. I knew I had given her another chance. The next day, there was another note on my desk. “Dear Ms Gao, I thought you would look down upon me if you knew the truth. But…Thanks a lot for your love. I’m sure I’ll be the top one through my hard work. I’ll try my best. Please believe me!” It was a smiling face at the end of the note. Since then, she has changed a lot. She did well in all her subjects, and each time when I see her, she is sitting there,reading or writing, with a smile on her face.
