33. Mr. White tried to keep his position in the company and was still the director.

怀特先生成功保住了自己在公司的职位，他仍然是主管。

33. tired改成managed。try to表示“尽力做某事”，但没有做成；manage to表示“做成某事”，根据and后的内容可知他成功保住了自己的职位。

例句：But we are trying to help them.

但我们正试图帮助他们。

结构分析：

Mr. White是主语，managed是谓语（过去一般时），to keep his position in the company是不定式词组作宾语，其中in the company是后置定语，and是连词，was still the director是系表型谓语，其中was是系动词（过去一般时），still是副词作状语，the director是名词词组作表语。
