人生十有八九不如意，难免会遇到两个问题，这个问题和那个问题，或大或小。有的小问题能迎刃而解，有的大问题却是棘手的问题，让遇到它们的人失去头绪，或不容易让人顺藤摸瓜，以致于无从下手。 从翻译的信达雅角度来看，在英语中表达“棘手的问题”可以简单地用 problem 来表示，它是一个使用频率非常高的单词，而且用法也是丰富多彩，多为引起担心或造成困难的具体事情，例如： Stress is a major problem of modern life. 压力是现代生活中的主要问题。 Quite apart from all the work, he had financial problems. 除了那么多工作，他还有财务困难。 I'm having problems with my computer. 我的电脑有问题。 Eating too much sugar can lead to health problems. 食用过多的糖会引起健康问题。 problem 常用的搭配有： 1. have a problem with sth 译为“对…有异议；不同意；反对”，例如： If you have a problem with that, I want you to tell me right now. 如果你有异议，我要你马上告诉我。 I have no problem with you working at home tomorrow. 你明天在家里工作，我没有意见。 2. no problem/not a problem 译为“没问题”，例如： Picking you up was no problem. Don't even mention it. 接你没问题。别跟我客气。 A: Would you mind emptying the dishwasher for me? 你介意帮我把洗碗机里的东西倒空吗？ B: Sure, no problem. 当然（你当然可以倒空洗碗机里的东西），没问题。 3. What's your problem 译为“你怎么了；你犯啥病啊”，通常在认为对方不讲道理时说，用于非正式场合，例如： Hey, what's your problem, pal? You can't cut ahead of people in the line! 嘿，你怎么了，伙计？你不能抢在队伍前面！ 因此要表达什么样的问题，就可以对应地在 problem 前面加不同的修饰语，那么“棘手的问题”类似的表达方式很多，比如：a difficult/ complex/ complicated/ tough/ tricky problem 等等，例如： 表达“棘手的问题”还可以用一个短语 a knotty problem，其中的 knotty [ˈnɒti] 相当于 difficult、hard、complex 或 complicated 等，例如： Translating from another language can be a knotty problem for some students. 翻译另一种语言对一些学生来说是个棘手的问题。 It is always a knotty problem to understand my boss’s handwriting. 理解我老板的笔迹总是一个棘手的问题。 The new Government is faced with a knotty problem to kick start the economy. 新政府在启动经济方面面临一个棘手的问题。 Evolution is a knotty problem if you believe in God. 如果你相信上帝，进化是个棘手的问题。 类似地还可以用一个习语 a hot potato 来形容“棘手的问题”，它的字面意思是“一个烫手的马铃薯”，因此它还可以译为“烫手的山芋”，例如： All of them avoid talking about the hot potato. 他们都避而不谈这个棘手的问题。 The housing problem today is not easy to solve. It's a hot potato. 今日的房屋问题不容易解决，真是令人头痛。 The issue of immigration became a political hot potato. 移民问题成了政治上的烫手山芋。 人只要保持良好的作息时间、积极向上的心态和充分的自律，就很难遇到棘手的问题，即使是遇到了，也能迎刃而解。 |
