It was only suppressed when the local government called out the National Guard to suppress the riots. By the time it was calmed, over 25 Blacks were confirmed killed with dozens of others injured. This was not the first or last time rumors of Black wantonness mobilized white male rage. Nor was it confined to just the South. Mere rumors of a black male looking at a white woman could mobilize a mob meting out “racial justice” which resulted in massive property damage and loss of life to put the “blacks back in their place.” Remnants of these actions continue on to today in the “Black Lives Matter” movement.Race Riots, Black Lives Matter
