By this point, the US and Britain had concluded their aims, but no one was willing to accept a separate peace deal. The next ten months was spent wrangling concessions and agreements from the other participants.While France was ready to agree to terms, they were committed to their ally Spain, who was insistent on British surrender of Gibraltar (still under British control to this day) and the Netherlands had similar goals. Getting everyone to accept a common peace required some skillful negotiations, consolations and even some bluffing that the US would renounce their treaty with Spain and leave them to fight Britain alone.
