安德鲁·劳埃德·韦伯作曲的两幕音乐剧《猫》是迄今为止最为成功的音乐剧，从1982年--2000年，共上映7485场，本是在伦敦西区及纽约百老汇上演时间最长的音乐剧，直到2006年被音乐剧《歌剧魅影》追平并打破这一纪录。
《猫》是剧作者韦伯根据艾略特为儿童写的诗改编的。《猫》的创作并非一帆风顺，直到离上演时间很接近时，作者尚未找到感情宣泄之处，导演特里沃·南要求作者再作修改。当晚，韦伯创作了该剧最为流行的歌曲之一——《回忆》，但只有旋律而没有歌词。他们请词作家帮忙，可试了几次都不满意。最后，在公演前几天，导演南终于想到了"回忆"这个词，把这首歌用于一只叫格里泽贝拉的雌猫上，她离开杰里科猫族到外面去闯荡，历尽艰险，最后回忆起在家族中的幸福生活，渴望回归家族，唱出了这首动人的歌。通过这一构思，导演才完成了这部音乐剧的组织:工作，把一个个的片断串联成了一个整体，该剧于1982年10月7日首演于纽约百老汇的冬园剧院。 《猫》曾获得七项托尼奖。《回忆》则成为现代音乐中的经典家喻户晓。这一首歌曾被录制过六百次之多，包括著名的歌手芭芭拉史翠珊。
