【原】表达失去控制，除了out of control，还有更形象的表达方式

同一个意思有多种表达方式，是任何一门语言的特点，也是学习熟练度的一个判断依据，就像在英语中要表达谢谢，除了常见的 thank you，其实还有很多其他表达方式，如 thanks a lot 和 thanks a million 等等。

在英语中表达“失去控制”，最常见的表达方式是 out of control，lose control (of) ，have no control over 和 beyond control，其中 out of control 常与 be，get 或 run 连用，例如：

out of control:

The real estate market in this city is totally out of control.

这个城市的房地产市场完全失控了。

I'm sorry for the way I acted last night. I had too much to drink and got a little out of control.

我为我昨晚的行为感到抱歉。我喝多了，有点失控。

A truck ran out of control on the hill.

一辆卡车在山上失去了控制。

lose control:

The minute you do this, you'll lose control.

你一旦做了这件事，就会失去控制。

People lose control of the time they spend on the Internet.

人们不能控制他们在网络上所花费的时间。

have no control over:

The teacher had no control over the children.

那位老师管不住学生。

I have no control over where he decides to live. 

他决定住哪里，我无法控制。

beyond control:

The children were beyond control. 

这些孩子不听管束。

The situation is beyond our control. 

我们已无法控制这一局面。

表示身体部位的单词短语常被用作比喻意义，如 red-handed 和 pay lip service 等等。失去控制也可以用一个跟身体部位有关的短语来表示，那就是 out of hand，其中的  hand 跟前面两个的用法类似，例如：

red-handed    当场抓获的

The murderer was caught red-handed. 

凶手当场被抓获了。

(pay) lip service    口惠无实

Is this a real promise, or is this just lip service?

这是一个真正的承诺，还是只是口头上的承诺？

out of hand    失去控制

Things got a little out of hand at the party and three windows were broken.

聚会上情况有点失控，三扇窗户被打破了。

He went to see his doctor because he felt his drinking was getting out of hand.

他去看医生，因为他觉得他的酒量失控了。

Their kids need some discipline, they are getting completely out of hand.

他们的孩子需要一些管教，他们完全失控了。

Two of the children started fighting in the playground yesterday. It wasn’t long before it all got out of hand.

昨天有两个孩子开始在操场上打架。没过多久一切就失控了。

类似的习语数不胜数。由此可见英语知识远比我们想象的阶段知识来得丰富多彩，我们平时要多积累学习。那么在”控制之中“怎么表达呢？

control 常与介词 in 或 under 连用来表示在控制当中或处于掌控中，或者我们还可以用 have control of (over) sth，例如：

under control:

The situation is under control.

局势已经得到控制。

It took two hours to bring the fire under control. 

花了两个小时才控制住火势。

I've got everything under control.

一切都已在我控制之中。

in control (of):

Who's in control here? I want to talk to the ranking officer.

这里谁负责？我想和高级军官谈谈。

Your mother was terrified when she first learned to drive, but now she is completely in control behind the wheel.

你妈妈刚学会开车时很害怕，但现在她完全掌握了方向盘。

have control of (over) sth:

Some teachers have more control over pupils than their parents have. 

有的老师比小学生的父母更能管得住他们。

Parents should not have control over their children. 

父母不应该控制他们的孩子。

那么如何表达能否控制住呢？我们常用动词 get，keep 和 bring 来表示控制得住或不造成伤害，例如：

Please keep your dog under control!

请管好你的狗！

It took two hours to bring the fire under control. 

花了两个小时才控制住火势。

Firemen said they had the blaze under control.

消防队员说他们已经控制住了火势。

就像上面提到的，英语很多单词都有很多的用法，它们不但有多词性，而且意思还丰富多彩，就像家喻户晓的 free，它常被用作形容词，表示自由的，但实际上它还可以用作动词。

因此在实际的学习中要根据自己的能力，通过重学已经学会的单词使自己的词汇量“增加”。大家都知道的用法不常考，只是额外的努力让你独树一帜。
