英文中有一句著名的谚语：

Where there is life, there is hope.

有生命，就有希望。

这句话又常被译作：留得青山在，哪怕没柴烧。呵呵，真是大白话。

这句话还有另外的版本，大家都知道的安妮·弗兰克，那个写了《安妮日记》的犹太小姑娘，在她的日记中写道：

Where there is hope, there is life.

有希望，就有生命。

我们就来学习一下用英文表达希望吧。希望的英文是hope，这个词既可以用作名词，也可用作动词。常用的表达希望是用动词：

I hope so.

我希望如此。

I hope not.

我希望不会。

I hope everything will turn out fine.

我希望一切都好起来。    

I'm hoping the car will be fixed by Friday.

我希望这车能在周五前修好。

Let's hope we can find a parking space.

希望咱们能找到停车位。

I hope to get a job within the next two weeks.

我希望在接下来的两周内找到工作。

I’m hoping to have a day off.

我希望可以放一天假 。  

We are hoping for good weather on Sunday.

我们希望周日是好天气。

hope for这个表达也有句很出名的谚语：

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

抱最好的希望，做好准备应付最坏的局面。

这句话可以只用前一半：

I decided to just keep on going and hope for the best.

我决意继续前行，怀抱最好的希望。

还有一种较为书面的表达，是用被动语态的形式：

It is hoped that over $100,000 will be raised.

希望能筹集到超过10万美元。

这一句式其实是Sb. hopes that…的被动语态形式。

如果用hope的名词形式来表达希望，可以这样说：

His hope is to win a scholarship.

他希望能赢得奖学金。

My hope is that one day she will realize her dream.

我希望有一天她能实现她的梦想。

It’s my sincere hope that you’ll succeed.

我真诚希望你取得成功。

用hope的形容词形式hopeful和副词形式hopefully也可以表达希望：

I'm hopeful that we can find a solution.

我希望我们能找到解决办法。

Hopefully, we’ll get there before dark.

希望我们在天黑前能赶到那儿。
