Journey to the West 47: 

Two Tang Monks

The Daoist had vanished! Wukong ran outside and shot into the air. He looked in every direction.
"Where did the Daoist go?" asked Wukong.
Then he heard a shout from inside the palace.
"There are two Tang Monks!" cried Bajie.

道士消失不见了！悟空跑到外面，飞到空中。他四下查看。
“那道士去哪儿了？” 悟空问。
突然，他听到王宫里传来了尖叫声。
“这里有两个唐僧！” 八戒叫道。

Wukong flew back inside. Two Tang Monks stood side by side.
"They look exactly alike," said Wujing. "We can't tell them apart."
"Which one of you is the real Tang Monk?" asked Wukong.
"I am!" said one.
The other monk glared at the first one. "No, I am!"

悟空飞回了王宫。两个唐僧站在一起。
“他们看上去一模一样。” 悟净说，“我们区分不出来。”
“谁是真唐僧？” 悟空问。
“我！” 一个唐僧说。
另一个唐僧瞪着第一个唐僧说：“不，我才是！”

The first monk looked at Wukong. "Don't believe him, Wukong. I am the real Tang Monk."
"Don't believe him!" said the other monk. "I am the real Tang Monk."
Angry, Wukong pulled out his iron bar.

第一个唐僧看着悟空说：“别相信他，悟空。我才是真唐僧。”
“别相信他！” 另一个唐僧说，“我才是真唐僧。”
悟空非常生气，抽出了金箍棒。

"Which one of you is the real Tang Monk?"
Both Tang Monks fell to their knees, shaking with fear. "Don't hit me!" they both cried.
Wukong sighed. He turned to Bajie and Wujing. "What can we do?"

“你们到底谁才是真正的唐僧？”
两个唐僧都跪在地上，吓得发抖。“别打我！” 他们都大叫起来。
悟空叹了口气。他转向八戒和悟净，说：“我们怎么办？”

"I have an idea," said Bajie, smiling. "But you won't like it."
"What is it?" asked Wukong.
"The two Tang Monks should recite the Tight Headband spell," said Bajie. "Only the Tang Monk know the spell. We'll know right away which Tang Monk is fake."

“我有个办法。” 八戒笑着说，“但你不会喜欢的。”
“什么办法？” 悟空问。
“让他们两个都念紧箍咒。” 八戒说，“因为只有真的唐僧才知道口诀，所以我们立刻就能分辨出谁是假的了。”

"You just want to see me in pain!" said Wukong. Then he sighed. "But it is a good idea."
Bajie and Wujing stood near the monks.
"Master, recite the Tight Headband spell," said Wukong.

“你只是想看我痛苦吧。” 悟空说。他叹了口气。“也许，这是个好主意。”
八戒和悟净站在两个唐僧旁边。
“师父，念紧箍咒吧。” 悟空说。

Both monks began speaking, and Wukong fell to the floor. "It hurts!" he cried.
Bajie watched the Tang Monks carefully. One of them was reciting the spell. But the other one wasn't.

两个唐僧都开始念咒，悟空倒在地上。“好疼！” 他大叫。
八戒仔细地观察着两个唐僧。其中一个在念咒，但另一个并没有。

"This is the fake Tang Monk!" shouted Bajie, pointing. "He's just mumbling nonsense!"
The real monk stopped reciting the spell. Bajie and Wujing tried to grab the fake monk. The fake monk changed into a green lion and ran out of the throne room.

“他是假唐僧！” 八戒指着那个假唐僧大叫，“他在乱念！”
真唐僧停止念咒。八戒和悟净去抓那个假唐僧。假唐僧变成了一头绿色的狮子，跑出了正殿。

"Get him!" shouted Wukong.
They chased the lion outside. Outside the palace, the lion leaped into the air. Wukong and the others shot after him. Clouds swirled, and soon they had the lion surrounded. Wukong pulled out his iron bar and raised it to strike.

“抓住他！” 悟空大叫。
他们追了出去。在王宫外面，狮子飞上了天。悟空和其他人也追了出去。天上风起云涌。很快，他们就包围了狮子。悟空抽出金箍棒，准备朝狮子打下去。

Just then a deep voice called out, "Do not hit him, Sun Wukong!"
Everyone looked up.
"It's the bodhisattva Manjusri!" said Wukong.
"This green lion is mine ," said the bodhisattva.

这时，一个低沉的声音响起：“不要打它，孙悟空！”
大家都向上看去。
“那是文殊菩萨！” 悟空说。
“这头绿狮子是我的。” 文殊菩萨说，

"The king of the Black Rooster Kingdom did bad things many years ago. My lion came to punish him. The king's punishment is over now."
The bodhisattva and the lion disappeared above the clouds.

“很多年前，乌鸡国的国王做了坏事。我的狮子是来惩罚他的。现在，国王的惩罚已经结束了。”
文殊菩萨和狮子消失在了云里。

That night the king of the Black Rooster Kingdom hosted a feast. During the feast he turned to the Tang Monk. "Thank you for your help. I hope you will reach the Western Paradise very soon."

那天晚上，乌鸡国的国王举行了宴会。宴会时，他转身对唐僧说：“谢谢你们的帮助。希望你们顺利到达西天。”

Weeks passed, and the Tang Monk and his companions continued west. One day Wukong saw a mysterious red cloud over the mountains ahead.
"Stop walking," he said quietly.
"What's wrong?" asked the Tang Monk.

几个星期过去了，唐僧一行人继续西行。有一天，悟空看到了前方山顶上有一朵神秘的红云。
“等一下。” 悟空小声地说。
“出什么事情了？” 唐僧问。

The red cloud disappeared. Wukong shook his head. "Nothing, Master. I thought I saw a red cloud."
They walked some more. Wukong saw the red cloud again. He held up his hand for the others to stop.

那朵红云消失了。悟空摇摇头说：“没事，师父。我好像看到了一朵红云。”
他们又走了一会儿。悟空又看到了那朵红云。他举起手，示意其他人停下。

The red cloud disappeared once again, and Wukong started to walk again. But then the red cloud reappeared.
"Stop," said Wukong.
The Tang Monk sighed. "Wukong, should we keep going or not?"

红云又一次消失了。悟空继续向前走。这时，红云又出现了。
“等一下。” 悟空说。
唐僧叹了口气说：“悟空，我们到底走不走？”
