se cying是主格，位于句首或句尾，都是句子的主语。 thone biscop是宾格，位于位于句首或句尾，都是句子的宾语。 古英语名词有三种非自然的性（即阴性、阳性和中性，三种语法性别）。例如：wife 女人（同woman）是阳性，sorg悲哀（同sorrow）是阴性，scip船（同ship）是中性。毫无规律。 古英语的人称代词形式多变，第一人称和第二人称均有单数、双数和复数。（略） 古英语有两种时态，现在时和过去时。（略） 因外族入侵，古英语两次濒临灭绝。这直接促进单词屈折变化逐渐消失、语法简化、词序固定，使英语从一种综合性的语言变成了现在的分析性语言。 古英语是弱势语言，大量吸收外来词汇，丰富了词汇量，提高了表达能力。 古英语词汇比较简洁，但具有鲜明的民族特点。盎格鲁-萨克逊民族热爱古英语词汇。
