Volcanoes

Where does the word volcano come from? It comes from the Roman god of fire. His name was Vulcan.

A volcano is a mountain that blows its top! Hot lava pushes through the mountain.

Then, it flows down the side. Some volcanoes are millions of years old. Some sleep. Others are active. It is hard to tell when a volcano will blow.

Many volcanoes have snow. If they blow their tops, hot lava melts the snow. It burns up trees and plants, too, just like a fire.

火山

火山这个词是从哪里来的？它来自古罗马的火神，他的名字叫瓦肯。

火山是一座山顶会爆开的山！热的熔岩从山里冲出来。

然后，它从侧面向下流动。有些火山有数百万年的历史。有些火山沉睡，有些则是活跃的。很难说火山何时会爆发。

许多火山都有雪。如果火山爆发，热熔岩会融化雪。它也像火一样把树木和植物都烧掉。
