少年说||欣欣(223):Chinese traditional food-Dumplings

    In most counties,people usually eat traditional food on special holidays. A special holiday in China is Spring Festival, and a traditional food, dumplings, will be eaten on that day.
    Dumplings, alsoknown as “Jiaozi” in Chinese, play an important role in Chinese culture. It first appears during the Han Dynasty, and was invented by doctor Zhongjing Zhang. He wrapped some medicine in dough skins and made it look like ears. He boiled them and handed them out to poor people in order to cure theirfrostbites of their ears. It was the embryonic form of dumplings we eat today.
    It worked well and saved many people’s lives. To show their thanks to Zhang’s selfless dedicationand to prevent having frostbites, people started to eat dumplings every winter. Later, with the development of society, people need not to worry about frostbites, but the tradition of eating dumplings remains.
    Nowadays, dumplings become a symbol of Spring Festival on Spring Festival, family members from fay away come back from where they work and gather for a reunion. They often have a big family dinner and the main dish is almost always dumplings. Family members share their special experiences in the previous year, and wish for a new happy year. They have joyful talks along with enjoying delicious dumplings. Dumplings become a epitome of people saying farewell to the past and the future.
