【原】put on 有穿上的意思，但是 put one's face on 可不是穿上脸

Put on 是常见的短语动词，意思丰富多彩，其中最为我们熟悉的“穿上，戴上”的意思，但是 put your face on 很明显不是“穿上脸”的意思，因为牛头不对马嘴，那么它到底是什么意思呢？

先来看一下短语动词 put on 的所有意思，然后再看看有没有适合 put one's face on 的；它主要有以下几个意思：

一、put sth on，意为“穿上，戴上“，指的是穿戴服饰等，例如：

Put your coat on now! We're about to be late for the flight.

现在穿上外套！我们快赶不上航班了。

二、put sth on，意为“抹，擦，涂”等，指的是在皮肤或脸上应用一些东西，例如：

She's just putting on her make-up while we were rushing into her room.

我们冲进她的房间时，她正在化妆。

三、put sth on，意为“开动，发动，使运行”等，指的是使机器发动或运行起来等，例如：

I put on the brakes suddenly, but my car still collided head-on with the van.

我突然刹车，但我的车仍然与面包车迎面相撞。

四、put sth on，意为“播放”，通常指激光唱片或磁带等，例如：

从以上 put on 的意思可以看出，put one's face on 中的 put on 不是以上的任何一种；其实它是一个习语，意为“化妆”，特别用于女性，相当于 put on make-up，例如：

As a TV celebrity, she never goes out without putting her face on first.

作为一名电视明星，她出门之前总是要先化下妆。

由此可见，我们可以用对应 put on 的两种表达方式来表示化妆，一种是直接上妆品，如 put on cream，意为“涂抹如霜”，或者是 put one's face on，仅表示上妆，相当于对应的 put on make-up.

其实 make-up 是对应的短语动词 make up 的名词形式，因此 make up 也有上妆的意思，如 make up 或 make oneself/somebody up，它们都意为“上妆”，相当于 put one's face on，例如：

我们应该在出发前考虑给她化妆的时间。

We should take the time of making her up into consideration before departure.

We should take the time of putting her face up into consideration before departure.
