中国有些地区的传统文化中，有所谓“喜丧”的说法，通常用于高寿的人，需要寿数达到一定的年龄数目。 英语文化中也有类似的概念和做法，但似乎没有年龄上的限制。在美国南方的一些城市，就有在葬礼丧事上演奏欢快的乐曲和歌曲的传统，例如 When the Saints Go Marching In 这首爵士歌曲。 除了传统歌曲，有些曲调比较欢快的流行音乐作品，也被用于葬礼，其中流传最广的一首，就是来自美国的 Hard rock 摇滚歌曲 Spirit in the Sky，标题的含义相当于，上天的神灵。
