Hello English learners! Welcome back to my channel! I’m Reevs. Good morning!

大家好,欢迎来到懒人英语晨读栏目,我是Reevs,早上好呀。

And today I’m bringing you another great lesson about appointments.
今天要给大家带来另一个关于约定的重要一课。

Sometimes you have an appointment at the doctor’s or at work.

有时候你会有预约看医生,或者是工作上的约定。

And you have to cancel it.
会遇到你必须取消约定的情况。

So we’re gonna learn some great language to help you cancel appointments today.

所以今天我们要学习一些很棒的语言来帮助你学会取消约定。

Let’s go straight to the dialogue then.
那我们直接开始对话吧。

「对话文本」

A: Hello, Samantha speaking.
你好,我是萨曼莎。

B: Hi Samantha. This is Angela calling.
嗨,萨曼莎,我是安吉拉。

A: Oh, hi Angela, what’s up?
噢,嗨,安吉拉,有什么事吗?

B: I’m just calling about our meeting today. I wonder, is it possible to reschedule our appointment in the afternoon? I have a bit of an emergency that I need to take care of.
我打电话问有关今天的会议。我想,是否有可能在重新安排下午的安排呢?我有一些紧急事情需要处理。

A: Let me see, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem...
我看看……应该不会有太大的问题……

B: I’m really sorry, I hope it doesn’t inconvenience you too much, it’s just this thing came up, and ...
真的很抱歉,希望不会给您造成太多的不便,只是这件事发生太突然了……

A: Angela, you know what, I can’t make it to our meeting, either. Why don’t we postpone it to tomorrow afternoon at the same time?
你知道吗,安吉拉,我也不能出席我们的会议。为何我们不把会议推迟到明天同一时间呢?

B: Sounds great. See you tomorrow.
听起来很不错,明天见。

C: Angela..Angela, look up! See that lady over there who is trying on a red leather jacket? Isn’t that Samantha?
看,安吉拉,快看,看哪位正在试穿红色皮夹克的女士,那不是萨曼莎吗?

B: What? No wonder she told me she couldn’t make it to the meeting, oh, no, I think she saw me...

什么?难怪她告诉我她不能参加会议。噢,不,我想她看到我了……

「重要发音技巧」

Welcome back. Let’s look at some useful pronunciation tips.

欢迎回来,我们先来看看对话中实用的发音技巧。

1. 辅元连读+Flap Tbit of, that I

对话中:I have a bit of an emergency that I need to take care of.

连读分析:两个单词相邻,前一个单词词尾是辅音,后一个单词开头为元音时,可以做辅元连读,bit of /bɪtəv/that I/ðætaɪ/

Flap T分析:/t/在两个元音音标中间且非重读的时候,可以读为一个很轻的/d/。
bit of /bɪtəv/that I /ðætaɪ/

2. 失爆:need totake care

对话中:I have a bit of an emergency that I need to take care of.

I have a bit of an emergency that I need to take care of.

「核心单词掌握」

Okay, we have some really interesting words that you’ve probably listened to in this dialogue.

我们有一些非常有趣的词,你可能在对话中已经听到了。

Okay, so let’s start with vocabulary. Today I’m bringing you three words.

好的,我们从词汇开始,今天要来给同学们讲解3个单词。

The first word is "reschedule".

第一个单词是 “reschedule”

1. reschedule /ˌriːˈskedʒuːl/ v.
重新安排

When you reschedule an appointment, you change it for another day or time.

当你重新安排约定的时候,你把它改到另一天或者另一个时间。

例如:
She rescheduled the meeting for the following week.

她重新安排了下周的会议。

schedule v. 安排。 re-前缀,表示重复,重新。所以reschedule是重新安排的意思,再举两个例子:rebuild v. 重建,rewrite v. 重写。

The second word that we have is "inconvenience".

我们第二个单词是“inconvenience”

2.inconvenience /ˌɪnkənˈviːniəns/ v.不便

So, to inconvenience someone is to make things not convenient for that person.

因此,给某人带来不便就是事情对那个人不方便。

So, to make things a little bit difficult or to make things a little bit uncomfortable.

所以,让事情变得有点困难或者是让事情变得有点不舒服。

Dialogue
里讲到过:

I hope it doesn’t inconvenience you too much.
希望不会给您造成太多的不便。

例如:
I’m sorry to inconvenience you.

抱歉给您造成不便。

And our third word is "postpone".

我们第三个单词是 “postpone”

3. postpone /pəʊˈspəʊn/ v. 推迟

We have some examples of the word postpone that will help you to understand its meaning a little bit better. Let’s listen.

我们有一些关于延迟的例子,可以帮助你更好地理解它的意思。我们来听听。

例1:

Since Robert is late again, we have to postpone the meeting.

由于罗伯特又迟到了,我们不得不把会议延期。

例2:

Unfortunately, the flight will be postponed.

很遗憾,航班将延期。

Okay, so, basically, postpone is to delay.

所以,postpone就是表示延迟,推迟。

「实用口语表达」

Alright, so, in this dialogue we had some really great phrases that we should look at.
好了,在这段对话中,我们有一些非常棒的短语,我们应该来看看。

We have three phrases for you today  and the first one is so common. It’s a great phrase – What’s up?

我们今天为你准备了三个短语,第一个很常见,这是一个很棒的短语 —— What’s up?

1. What’s up? 怎么了?

So, this is a very common way of saying “Hi.”.

这是一种很常见的打招呼方式。

Now the interesting thing is  many people don’t know how to answer this phrase.
有趣的是,很多人不知道怎么回答这个短语。

I see this all the time with my students.
我经常在我的学生身上看到这种情况。

So, when someone greets you with “What’s up?”, you can respond:Not much. / Nothing.”.

所以,如果当有人跟你打招呼说怎么了,你可以回复:Not much. 没什么。Nothing.没有什么。

So the next time someone tell you“What’s up?”, now you know what to answer.

所以下次当别人和你说怎么了,现在你知道该怎么回答了。

Okay, our second phrase – I can’t make it.

好了,我们的第二个短语——I can’t make it

2. I can’t make it. 我去不了。

We use this phrase when we want to say “I cannot attend.”.

当我们想说我不能出席的时候,我们用这个短语。
I cannot make it. I can’t come.
我去不了。

So, if you’re having a party today, I say “oh, I’m sorry, I can’t make it.”.

如果你今天要开派对,我会说哦,对不起,我去不了了。

It means I can’t go.
意思是我不能去。

Maybe one more example:

也许再举一个例子:

- So we’ve got a meeting today at three o’clock. I can’t make it, I’m recording today.
那么,我们今天三点钟有个会议。我去不了了,我今天要录音。

- Oh, okay.

好吧。

Our last phrase for today – This thing came up.
我们今天最后一个短语 —— This thing came up

3. This thing came up. 突然出现。

This is a great way of giving an excuse for why you can’t make it.

这是一个很好的方式,为你不能去找一个借口。

I can’t make today, because this thing came up.

我今天没空,因为有件事。

Like something happened.

像是发生了事情。

Let’s listen to a few examples of this phrase, so we can see how it’s used.

让我们来听几个关于这个短语的例子,这样我们就能知道它是如何使用的。

例1:

I’m sorry that I’m late, this thing came up at work and I had to stay to take care of it.

很抱歉,我迟到了,工作上出了点事,我得留下来处理。

例2:

I can’t talk right now, something came up.

我现在没空,有事。
