Steven: Ronica. It's me, the man that has and always will love you. I'm sorry that I've lied to you.

Ronica, believe me, it's been hard for me as well, and time and again, I've thought of coming clean. But, I couldn't put you, or my mission at risk. It's all over now.

Now, let's look at some useful pronunciation tips.

1. 连读+Flap T: that I，缩写读法：I've

对话中：

I'm sorry that I've lied to you.

连读分析：

当两个单词相邻时，前一个单词词尾是辅音，后一个单词开头是元音的时候，可以作辅元连读。

比如这里的that I /ðætaɪ/ (/t/是辅音，/aɪ/是元音)，可以读为/ðætaɪ/。

Flap T：

连读基础上，/t/在两个元音音标之间且非重读，/t/可以读为一个很轻的/d/, 可以读为/ðædaɪ/（/t/在元音音标/æ/和/aɪ/之间）。

缩写读法：

I've=I have, 缩写后I've, 读为/aɪv/，缩写之后have只剩了一个/v/的发音，/v/在英语中被叫做“咬唇音”，发音时上齿轻咬下嘴唇内侧，同时声带振动。

复述：

I'm sorry that I've lied to you.

2. 弱读：for

对话中：

Are you waiting for someone?

弱读分析：

句子中，意思相对不重要的单词，可以做弱读处理，比如介词，像这里的for/fɔːr/, 可以弱读为/fər/, 第二个音标/ə/发音时，舌头自然放松放平在口腔。

复述：

Are you waiting for someone?

Okay, let's go straight into the language now.

好的，我们现在直接来看语言表达。

We are gonna look at five words today.

今天我们要来看5个单词。

The first one is "deceive".

第一个单词是 "deceive"。

1. deceive /dɪˈsiːv/ v. 欺骗

When you deceive somebody, you make them believe that is untrue.

当你欺骗某人的时候，你让他们相信那些不真实的事情。

在我们的对话中，女主说 “How could you deceive me like that?” 你怎么能这样子骗我，这里使用了deceive sb. “欺骗某人”的用法。

那如果是“欺骗某人去做某事”的话，deceive sb. into doing sth.

e.g. He deceived his mother into thinking he was going to school.

       他欺骗他妈妈认为他要去学校。

The opposite of deceive is to be forthright. So our second word is "forthright".

deceive的反义词是forthright。所以我们第二个单词是 "forthright"。

2. forthright /ˈfɔːrθraɪt/ adj. 直率的，坦诚的

When you are forthright with somebody, you are very honest and truthful with them.

当你对某人是forthright，你对他们很诚实，很真实的。

像我们dialogue里面提到的I want to be completely forthright with you.

be forthright with sb. 对某人坦白

除此之外，forthright还常用来修饰名词，比如说a forthright person/answer

一个坦诚的人/一个直截了当的回答

Let's move to our third word "undying".

我们来看第三个单词 "undying"。

3. undying /ʌnˈdaɪɪŋ/ adj. 永恒的, 永久的

Steven promised Ronica undying love in our dialogue.

Steven承诺Ronica会给她永恒的爱。

So he is offering her his love forever.

所以他会永远爱她。

We can also say, he declared his undying love for her.

我们也可以这样来说，他声称他对她的爱永远不变。

Okay, let's look at another interesting word "devoted".

好的，我们再来看另一个有趣的单词 "devoted"。

4. devoted /dɪˈvəʊtɪd/ adj. 挚爱的，忠诚的

Steven promised to be a devoted husband.

Steven承诺说要做一个尽责的丈夫。

So he would be very committed to her and worked really hard.

所以他会对她很忠诚，而且会很努力去爱她照顾她。

We can change it a little bit.

我们可以改动一下。

We can also talk about "a devoted friend/father".

我们也可以说“一位忠诚的朋友/尽责的父亲”。

Alright, our last word for today "cherish".

好的，我们今天最后一个单词 "cherish"。

5. cherish /ˈtʃerɪʃ/ v. 珍爱，钟爱

Steven also promised “I will cherish you always.”

Steven也承诺过：我会一直爱你。

To cherish someone, which means you hold someone in your heart, you really love him/her.

珍爱某人，就是你把某人放在你的心上，你真得很爱他/她。

家人也是我们生命中很重要的一部分，所以珍惜你的家人，我们可以说，cherish your family.

「实用口语表达」

Some nice words, I think now we can move on to some interesting phrases.

那么，说完这些很不错的词汇，现在来看一下有趣的短语。

Well, I've got four phrases for you. 

我有4个短语要来讲解。

Let's start with the first one "talk over".

我们首先来看第一个 "talk over"。

1. talk over 详细讨论

To talk something over, now if I tell you that I want to talk it over, I wanna talk it for some time, to really talk about all of the problems and issues, trying to make things clear.

详细谈论某事，现在如果我告诉你我想详细谈论，就是我想找时间谈一下这个事情，去谈论所有的问题和议题，把事情弄清楚。

Let's look at another example. 

我们再来看一个例子。

Come into my office so we can talk this over.

来我的办公室，这样我们可以好好谈一下这件事。

Our next phrase is "tired of".

我们下一个短语是 "tired of"。

2. tired of 厌倦，厌烦

If you are tired of something, you don't want to continue to do it or you are bored with it.

如果你厌倦某事物，你不想继续来做，或者你觉得它很无聊。

In our dialogue，Ronica said “I'm tired of your lies.” So we can use it as “ tired of something”.

在我们的对话中，Ronica说“我厌倦了你的谎言。”所以我们可以用作厌倦某事 “tired of sth.”

如果是厌倦做某事，是tired of doing sth.

For example, I'm tired of doing the same job. 

我厌倦了做一样的工作。

Moving on to our third phrase, "make up for".

我们来看第三个短语，"make up for"。

3. make up for 弥补, 补偿

So why don't we listen to some examples of how this is used?

为什么不来看一些它如何使用的例子呢？

Example one

Linda gave Henry a bottle of wine to make up for missing his birthday.

Linda给了Henry一瓶红酒来弥补错过了他的生日（这件事）。

Example two

I tried to make up for lost time by working hard.

我试着努力工作去弥补那些浪费的时间。

So, make up for, which means to do something as a way of correcting or improving.

所以make up for, 就是去做一些事情来修正或者改善。

Okay, our last phrase for today "at the drop of a hat".

好的，我们今天最后一个短语 "at the drop of a hat"。

4. at the drop of a hat 立即，毫不犹豫

It is an interesting way of saying immediately.

这是一种非常有趣的方式来说“马上”。

I think if we listen to some examples, it will help us to understand the meaning of this phrase.

我认为如果我们听一些例子，它会帮助我们理解这个短语的意思。

Example one

I can't leave at the drop of a hat. I need time to prepare.

我不能马上出发。我需要时间准备。

Example two

If you need help, just call on me. I can come at the drop of a hat.
