As you know, at the pharmacy you get medicine.

A: Hello sir, how can I help you?

B: Yes, I need this prescription please.

A: Let’s see. Okay, so 50 mg of Prozac. Would you prefer this in capsule or tablet?

B: Capsules are fine.

A: Okay, you should take 1 capsule 3 times a day. Be sure not to take it on an empty stomach, and also, don’t ever mix it with alcohol!

B: Yes, I know. It’s not the first time I’m taking this! Don’t worry, I won't overdose!

略读分析：

• need this之间，need的爆破音/d/遇见了this的摩擦音/ð/，need的爆破音/d/不完全爆破，只发出轻微的爆破声，读作/niː(d)/ + /ðɪs/。 

2. Be sure not to take it on an empty stomach, and also, don’t ever mix it with alcohol!

略读分析：

• not to之间，not的爆破音/t/遇见了to的爆破音/t/, not的爆破音/t/只做好发音的姿势，不发音，稍做停顿后随即发出后面的爆破音，读作/nɑːt/ + /tuː/。

A prescription is a note from your doctor explaining what medicine you need. So this note from your doctor is necessary to buy that medicine, right? 

prescription是医生开具的说明你需要什么药的证明。所以这张医生的证明是买药的必要条件。

2. capsule /ˈkæps(ə)l/  n. 胶囊

So this shopper was getting some medicine, and the pharmacist asked if he wanted it in capsules or tablets.

这位顾客在买药，药剂师问他是要胶囊还是要片剂。

Now, a capsule is a form of a pill, and it's shaped like a tube with the medicine inside.

胶囊是药丸的一种形式，它的形状像一个管子把药包在里面。

And the tablet is like a pill that is round and flat.

而tablet是指又圆又平的药片。

例如：

You are asked to swallow a capsule containing vitamin B.

你被要求吞下一颗含维生素B的胶囊。

If you do not like the taste, take it in capsule form.

如果你实在不喜欢这个味道，那么就服用它的胶囊吧。

3. eye drops 眼药水 

It’s often used for tired eyes, or to keep your eyes wet, right?

它通常是用来缓解眼睛疲劳，或者保持眼睛湿润的，对吗？

例句：

They buy bottles of eye drops to keep their eyes wet.

他们会买几瓶眼药水来保持眼睛湿润。

We have a variety of eye drops for tired eyes. Would you like one?

我们这里有很多保护眼睛疲劳的眼药水。你想来一盒吗？

「实用口语表达」

Alright, now let’s look at some phrases in this dialogue.

接下来我们来看看对话中的实用表达。

1. be sure not to...  一定不要...

The pharmacist warned, “be sure not to take it on an empty stomach”.

药剂师警告说：“be sure not to take it on an empty stomach”。

He means “ Do not take the medicine without eating. ”

他的意思是“一定不要空腹服用。”

Let’s listen to some examples of how we can use this in different situations.

我们来听一些例子，看看如何在不同的情况下使用be sure not to这个短语。

例句：

• Be sure not to leave your bike outside. It will be stolen. 

  千万别把自行车放在外面，它会被偷的。

• Be sure not to forget your umbrella. It's raining today. 

  别忘了带伞, 今天下雨了。

• I told them to be sure not to do anything stupid, but they did. 

  我告诉他们千万别做傻事，但他们做了。

So, why should we say, “be sure not to” instead of “don’t”. 

我们为什么要说“be sure not to”而不是“don't”。

Because “don't” sounds more like an order. Very direct. Maybe “be sure not to” is a little bit softer, a little bit more friendly. 

因为“don't”听起来更像是命令，非常直接。“be sure not to”更柔和，更友好一些。

2. hang on 等一下

So the pharmacist, in the end wanted to check for the price, and he said, “Just hang on there a sec.”

最后，药剂师想看看价格，他说“Hang on there a sec.”

He means wait.

他的意思是等等。

So it's an informal way of saying “wait”. It's also a little bit more friendly than just saying wait. 

这是一种非正式表达来说wait。也比说wait要更友好一些。

You can say: hang on a second, or hang on a moment, or hang on a minute. 

你可以说：hang on a second，或者hang on a moment / hang on a minute，都是“等一会儿”的意思。

例句：

• Hang on. I'll be ready in a minute.

  等一下。我马上就准备好了。

• Can you just hang on a sec?

  您能稍等一下吗？

• Hang on a minute — I'll just get my coat.

  等一下 — 我去拿外套。

• James will be back at once, hang on a moment.

  詹姆斯马上就回来，请等一下。
