A study from Spain showed that adults eating up to one egg a day did not affect blood pressure and glycated hemoglobin levels, even for overweight and obese people.
The findings further validate the conclusion of most current studies that adults are safe to eat up to one egg a day as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle to prevent cardiometabolic disease.
The study included a total of 668 adults, with a mean age of 52.4 years and 62.3% of whom were women.
The analysis results showed that compared with those who ate the least eggs (< 1.2 per week), the people who ate the most eggs (> 3.2~6.9 per week) had lower systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and glycosylated hemoglobin levels. However, after adjusting for multiple potential confounding factors, the above association is not statistically significant.
The researchers found that these results were consistent in both normal-weight people and overweight and obese.
In the study, 1 70 kg adult ate an average of about 21 g of eggs per day, or 1/3 egg.
