1. Write about an interesting city. What do you know about it? Do you want to visit this city? Why or why not? My favourite country is Maldives. I went there with my parents eight years ago. We first took an aeroplane, then a seagoing plane. It was great fun to take a seagoing plane because it felt like surfing on a huge surfboard. We swam, enjoyed the view and of course ate delicious seafood and fruit. I even planted a coconut tree with the help of a local. We really had a good time there. These years, I heard that Maldives would probably be submerged because of the rising sea level. I felt sad. And I hope everyone can do something to help protect the environment. I also want to visit Maldives again and to taste the coconut on my tree. My hometown, Bengbu, is an interesting city. It is one of the hundreds of “medium-sized” cities in China, but its place as a hub for transport south-north across China makes it really special. Every day, hundreds of trains pass the city, bringing different people, money and cultures to it. The city sits on one of the four great rivers in China, the Huai river, and because of its central place in river transport, the city has developed a dialect that does not sound like a dialect: the Jiang Huai “officials’ language”. Local people speak Chinese nearly without a regional accent, as most of their spoken language is highly similar to the Putonghua, the official national spoken language of our country. I love my hometown, Bengbu, a very special and interesting city in middle China.! (134 words) |
