【原】英语短文：回到乡下老家也不错……

As the saying goes: God closes a door for you and opens a window for you.Just like  today,  the pandemic has been last for two or  three years. 

Many people couldn't  last in the city, finally, and chose to return to their  hometowns in the countryside. 

人们常说：上帝给你关上一扇门的同时，也会给你留下一扇窗。就像如今疫情已经持续两三年，有很多人终于在城里撑不下去，选择回到了乡下老家。

It's the last/desperate choice you may thought. But when you did return home, you'll  find a sudden inner peace you hadn't experienced for many years: 

本来以为是个无奈的选择，当真的回到家乡，却发现突然找到了多年未曾体验到的内心宁静：

You may have been in the city for many years, even meet almost every day in or out, but you may still never know your  next door neighbors. 

当年在城里可能好多年，虽说进进出出，抬头不见低头见，可仍然和隔壁那家邻居素不相识；

Nowadays, you'll  realize that in the countryside, from the beginning to the end of the village, as soon as you  go out, all your acquaintances are there, greeting each other or simply walking and talking on the side of the road, or even visiting each other's homes without fear …

如今才发现，还是乡下从村头到村尾，只要一出门儿全都是熟人儿，互相或相互问候，或干脆在路边边走边聊，甚至没事互相串门儿，也不必提心吊胆……

Never again will the world feel as empty as it did in the city, despite all the traffic and crowds ......

从此再也不会像在城里那样虽说车水马龙，人潮涌动，却仍然感觉这世界那么空……

When you were busy in the city, you probably didn't look up at the sky, nor did you look at the ground; of course, even the moonlight and stars in the city were divided by high-rise buildings on a piece of "isolated island", and the flowers and plants on the ground were either installed in the green belt or locked up in a park, and occasionally one or two flowers and plants could only be squeezed into a corner or a crack in the stone, which also made you think of yourself struggling to survive ......

当年可能在城里忙忙碌碌，重未抬头看天，也没地头看地；当然城里连月光和星星也都被高楼大厦分割在一片片“孤岛”上，地上的花花草草要么被装在绿化带，要么被关在一个个公园里，偶有一两株花草也只能挤在某个墙角或石缝里，也不由让你想到艰难求生的自己……

When you come back home, you realize that in the countryside you can actually enjoy the whole moon, look up at the sky full of stars; raise your eyes is the road surrounded by trees, lower your head can see the green grass, as long as you want, you can even peach and plum rows in front of the hall, elm and willow shade the back eaves ......

回到家乡才发现原来在乡下你居然能独享整个月亮，仰看满天繁星；抬眼就是路树环绕，低头就能看到绿草如茵，只要你想，甚至还能桃李罗堂前，榆柳荫后檐……

Never again will you have to worry about not being able to grab a radish or a piece of cabbage at the supermarket when you are late.

从此再也不用担心去晚了超市里连根萝卜，一片白菜都抢不到。

Because if you want to, you can grow enough rice for a year in any of your own field, and if you start a vegetable garden in front of your house, you can grow some vegetables and never run out of vegetables.

因为只要你愿意，家里随便一块田，种的稻子就够你吃一年，房前屋后随便开片菜园，种上点儿菜，家里再也不缺青菜；

If you don't mind raising three or two chickens, four or five ducks, or even a goose or two, and get a couple of friends to fish with, you could be self-sufficient in chicken, duck and fish ......

倘若你不嫌麻烦，在养他个三两只鸡，四五只鸭，甚至一两只鹅，平时没事再找三两好友一起钓个鱼，那可能鸡鸭鱼肉全能自给自足了……

Of course, village life is not all rosy: at nightfall, the mosquitoes that hide in the depths come out; at night, in addition to mosquitoes, there are also rats and, if your village is remote enough, weasels and even wild boars ......

当然，乡村生活当然也不会全都那么美好：夜幕降临，躲在深处的蚊子就会出来活动；到了晚上，出来活动的除了蚊子，还会有老鼠，如果你的村子足够偏僻还有可以是黄鼠狼，甚至是野猪……

You will then find that your dog may turn a blind eye to the activities of rats; you will also know that with the departure of people and the increased awareness of environmental protection, it has enabled more wild boars to survive in the countryside ......

那时你会发现，你家的狗可能会对老鼠的活动睁一只眼闭一只眼；你也会知道，随着人们的离去，加上人们对环境保护意识的提升，使得更多的野猪能够在乡下存活……

So even if you go back to your hometown in the countryside, it won't be a one-off. If you really want to stay in the countryside, it's a good question to think about how to adapt, or survive better, or even revitalise the countryside together with your folks.

所以就算回到乡下老家也不会一劳永逸，如果真想留在乡下，如何适应，或者更好地生存，甚至和乡亲们一起振兴乡村，也是个很值得思考的问题。

However, I believe that we, who faced all kinds of difficulties in the city and still stubbornly held on for so many years, as long as we are willing to put in the effort, it is not that difficult to put down roots in the countryside ......

不过，相信当年在城里面对种种困难，仍然倔强地挺了那么多年的我们，只要肯下功夫，在乡下扎根也没有那么难……
