“天有不测风云”英语怎么说?

Accidents will happen.

【习语注释】

accident表示“事故;意外”,该习语的意思是“Things sometimes go wrong, despite our best efforts”,即“尽管我们尽了最大努力,但有时还是会出问题”,相当于汉语里的“天有不测风云”,或“人有旦夕祸福”。该习语有时也会简化为“Accidents happen”。

【习语运用】

Accidents will happen in the best regulated families.

美满的家庭也会发生意外的事情。

As the saying goes, "Accidents will happen". We human beings live in the frequent disasters on earth, naturally have to withstand the test of many emergencies.   

正所谓“天有不测风云“,我们人类生活在这个灾难频发的地球上,自然而然地要经受众多突发事件的考验。

I know that accidents happen, but I still can't believe he broke my vase!

我知道意外总会发生,但我还是不敢相信他打碎了我的花瓶!

【闲话习语】

该习语最早出现在John Muller的作品《A treatise containing the practical part of fortification》(1755):

"But, notwithstanding all human precautions that can be taken, yet accidents will happen." 

之后美国作家Charles Dickens在他的作品《The personal history of David Copperfield》(1850)里使用了该习语,并且使得该习语得以更为广泛地普及使用:

"'My dear friend Copperfield,' said Mr. Micawber, 'accidents will occur in the best-regulated families; and in families not regulated by that pervading influence which sanctifies while it enhances the - a - I would say, in short, by the influence of Woman, ..."
