man和hole我们都知道，但组合在一起，又好像不认识了，搞不好还会闹出一些糗事。来看看牛津词典对manhole的解释： 街面上盖有金属盖，供工人检修地下管道或下水道时出入的孔 其实就是我们经常在街道上看见的下水道口，也叫人孔，检查井。 He went down to the manhole again. 他又钻进下水道。 英文中还有很多跟man相关的表达，一起来学习下： as one man 表示：一齐；意见一致 释义：with everyone doing or thinking the same thing at the same time; in agreement The staff speak as one man on this issue. 工作人员在这个问题上意见一致。 be somebody’s man 这个表达可别根据字面翻译为：成为某人的男人，多少有点让人害羞。它真正的意思是：某项工作等的最佳人选或最合适人选。 释义：to be the best or most suitable person to do a particular job, etc. For a superb haircut, David’s your man. 想要一个完美的发型，大卫是你的最佳人选。 be your own man 指的是自己做主；自己给自己拿主意 释义：to act or think independently, not following others or being ordered Working for himself meant that he could be his own man. 为自己工作意味着他可以自己做主。 every man for himself 形容人人为己；各自逃命；各人自扫门前雪 释义：people must take care of themselves and not give or expect any help In business, it’s every man for himself. 在商界，人人为己。 man and boy （指男子）从小到大 释义：from when somebody was young to when they were old or older He has lived in the city, man and boy, for forty years. 他从小到大在这个城市，已经住了四十年。 a man of the world 形容阅历丰富的人；老成稳重的人 释义：a person with a lot of experience of life, who is not easily surprised or shocked Bob is a man of the world; why not go to him for advice? 鲍勃是个通晓世故的人，干嘛不去听听他的意见呢？ man to man 表示诚恳地；公开地 释义：between two men who are treating each other honestly and equally I’m telling you all this man to man. 我要把这一切都坦率地告诉你。 |
